Do you think it makes sense to offer a free DVD player with a TREO purchase? I would think most prosoective Treo users are "cutting edge" technology users and a DVD player wouldn't influence purchase decisions. For me it's price...and the TREO itself. Did you buy your Treo because of the free DVD player? What's your opinion?

Nope. It did at first because I thought I could maybe sell the DVD player on eBay to recoup some of the cost of the Treo 300. The DVD player is an Apex AD1500 or AD1600. I bought an AD1500 for my mother and it seems to work fine. This particular model is hackable via CDR to disable Macrovision and Region Coding. I don't know about the AD1600, though.

Luckily, I hesitated. CompUSA had the Treo 300 for $349 after rebates. Best Buy had it for $399 after rebates. Then Amazon had the deal sealer with $299 after rebates with no sales tax or shipping!

With the Apex DVD player going for as little as $39 on sale, it just wasn't worth it.
