Default Unlocked Treo 700

I'm new to this forum and i'm thinking of buying a Treo, but first i'd like to know if there will be a Treo 700 that's not from Verizon, preferably an unlocked one?

Another question I have is, do unlocked Trio's work with any type of sim cards?

Favorite i too am interested in this ...

i just bought a treo 650 from cingular since the 700w wasn't available and i needed cingular service to communicate with my whole family ....they all have cingular . now , as far as i know , and i'm new here but know a little something something about phones , operating systems and what-not .... the current 700w from verizon uses the CDMA system and runs on the EV-DO network . this means that there currently aren't any GSM 700w here in the US to unlock or not . phones on verizon or sprint can never operate on any GSM network ... they don't even use SIM cards so unlocking them wouldn't help . perhaps and this is only speculation .... sprint will get the 700 next since they too use CDMA but for cingular , t-mobile , and other GSM network companies to use there needs to be an unlocked or locked GSM version that uses SIM cards to work . hope that gives u any idea .

yes , most unlocked phones will work with any SIM card thats valid . meaning , a t-mobile 600 treo will work with cingular and vice versa .

I already know that verizon uses cdma, but what I wanted to know was if there was going to be a gsm
treo 700, or would I have to buy the 650.

Another thing is that if I buy an unlocked treo 650, and then get a plan, could I get warranty for it.

ok ... here it is . there's rumors and assumptions that a treo 700w will come out later this year ...sometime around November is what i've heard from many different websites . you can even sign up for a newsletter and also pre-order a GSM version but who really knows " WHEN " and not " IF " its coming out ... anyone's guess really . check this link out for some insight : http://www.mobileplanet.com/product.asp?code=129337

as far as buying an unlocked 650 , sure you can do it and the warranty comes from where u buy it , not the company you have it with . for example , if you buy an unlocked treo 650 from the palm website ... 600.00 bucks and a warranty from palm is included . but why not just buy from cingular and ask to get it unlocked .... i bought a cingular 650 locked and i asked if they could unlock it and they said ...sure no prob , oh yeah , did i mention i didn't even recieve the treo 650 yet !!! cool , i can unlock it as soon as i get it !!! and i got the treo for 250.00 bucks with some extras thrown in there too ....

Sleeping? I wish - got up at 4:00 this morning and got to my destination at 5:00 this afternoon - yep, long day!

I made the same decision (have I said this already??) - went ahead and bought the 650 and will wait until next year to see what happens with both the "P" and the "W". But as you said above the 700W IS the BADDEST - but just not how you meant it!!

but you have read that one already, right?

OK, early to bed tonight!

That's what I want, but november is far away, if it's even true.

So I guess i'll get me one of those Sony Walkman phones to hold me over until the gsm 700 comes out.

I would buy a 650 now but I don't want to waste 600 dollars now and like 800 later this year.

I was thinking about getting the Cingular 650 and unlocking it, it would be much cheaper, but I don't want all the extra software and stuff from Cingular.

I got my 650 for about $200 because I opened a new line of service. That was the only way I could justify it - and I needed a new line for my daughter. I knew that I would spend another $200-300 on sw and accessories after I bought it, so I REALLY could not justify spending $599 +/- on a 700 and then buy accessories - I mean, you gotta have a case, screen protectors, charger(s), headset, etc. There's probably less sw needed for the W, but there are essentials for the POS hardware (backup, uninstall, SD card, etc). It all adds up QUICK.

And, I just could not wait any longer - I got the "bug" and had to pull the trigger (OK, pull the trigger once the price was affordable for me).
