Default Which carriers allow one to use a Treo internationally?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum, but I don't have time to search.

With Sprint I can not use my Treo abroad (in Europe, etc.).

I believe that AT&T/Cingular is one option, but a friend said that T-Mobile is another option. Is that true? Which carriers would give me this functionality?

Also, is that what "locked/unlocked" means, or is that something else?

    Thanks.

I'm able to use my Cingular service in China and Mexico. I believe you have to request that service, but my treo is also unlocked, so I also use China Mobile, MovieStar and TelCel simm cards... it's cheaper.

Any GSM Treo (not Sprint or Verizon, which use CDMA technology) should accept a SIM card from anywhere, provided it isn't "locked" to a particular carrier (i.e. Cingular-branded). You might have success contacting a particular carrier and requesting a locked Treo be unlocked, like some others have. Some people have used the "unlock codes" floating around the internet. An unlocked Treo is a GSM unit that's not "locked" to any particular carrier and will accept any valid SIM card inserted.

Thanks.... With this in mind, I don't understand the lack of availability of the 700p on the GSM network. Now, Europe's got the 750, and we still don't even have the 700.

Seems to me Palm is making some very poor business decisions.

One more question: Is it true that with an unlocked phone, when you use an international carrier (temporarily, while traveling), your phone number, etc., changes? So anyone who calls you would need to know your "new" number?

Well, yeah. You're using a totally different carriers simm card, so you will have a new number. GSM carriers in most countries sell prepaid simm cards. You can usually find them in the airport. On the up side, it's a lot cheaper for you to make and receive calls even though those calling you from home will have dial long distance.
