Since you are new to the forum, take the time to read the info files and cruise the forums. Also, have you thought of what you want to accomplish with the device? Doing so will make it easier for you.

Your first application to install: an installation monitoring application. There are two good ones; I use Uninstall Manager.

The second application to install: a device based backup program. There are a couple or triple of them; I use Resco Backup.

The third application to install: a good third party application. There are bunches and bunches. I use ZLauncher and also recommend Initiate and LauncherX.

If you are a heavy email user - ChatterEmail.

If appointments are your name and game, DateBook 6 or Agendus. I like DateBook 6. Agendus tries to accomplish too many things and gets bogged down. In addition, there are some excellent applications that interface well with Datebook6. Take a look at 2Day and TakePhone.
