Welcome to the forum Stihlbolts! Most of the folks here are Treo Enthusiasts! For what its worth, it seems that all carriers could improve upon the Customer Service experience! At least Sprint offers insurance for the Treo. Cingular refuses to, yet will insure any other phone they carry. Just not PDA's.
As far as email goes, when I bought my Treo, I thought that Versamail would be all I would need. I was not one to live and die by my email. But I ended up with several problems around Versamail, and was very frustrated. I recognized that if I was going to have any email abilities at all with my Treo, I was going to have to look for a 3rd party solution. I tried
ChatterEmail and it has totally changed the way I manage my mail. In fact, its my choice to read all email from my 5 accounts. Long responses still get my PC nod, but for reading and short replies, I will reach for my Treo before I grab my laptop, or desktop PC's!!
Also, you mentioned the cost: It seems that the Treo was just the initial cost . . . . I have dropped a small fortune into applications and accessories, so I can expand its abilities! Cost might be the downside, but the upside is, I have a device that I honestly don't think I can live without! It gets me up in the morning and literally keeps me company throughout the day. I get my news, email, read books, watch movies, play games, and communicate with the world all through this one device. I can't say if its right for you or not, but I can certainly say, without a doubt that its right for me . . .
