Default New here - Faithful Palm user looking for my next device.

Hi.
This is my first day at this forum. I've used Palm organizers a long time and lately Treo 650 from it's release in Europe. Unfortunately my 650 now thinks a headset is connected all the time and after having managed to temporary fix this a few times it now seems to be permanent.

So, the big question! Which is my next smart phone. Had to use the Sony Ericsson P1i for a couple of weeks and it is driving me crazy. What are the Symbian/UIC people thinking about. The software is unusable. And all my life is in there! Luckily the 650 still can serve as an organizer.

I think it's the Palm OS and apps I'm in love with, or is it the way the hardware makes it possible to reach all you need with max two button clicks (hard or soft). Most likely a combination.

Can it really work as well with Palm and PocketPC? Have Palm really dressed up that lame OS and the included apps with their own tweeks so that it really works.

Mind you, I did try PPC on an IPAQ before getting the Treo back in 2005 and that was even worse than the Symbian experience. Or what do you say about, Find calendar app, open day view, new appointment, open subject field, type, close, open start time field, etc. Drives you nuts!

I would really appreciate if anyone reading this could help me decide. There are so few units out here in Europe that the stores don't have them so I can try them out.

Advice appreciated. Like: Warning - sounds like you should stay with Palm OS, however old and gadget free the units might be.

Or, you'll be surpriced. WM6 on the 750 is really good. Compares to the ease of the Palm OS/apps, and there's 3G.

What I learned so far:
I can't get the 755p because it's only available in a US version. (This is really annoying)

The 680 is not made by HTC, so is the build quality as good? Still no 3G(!).

Centro: To small for me. (I think?)

750. Nice, but Windows?

500. Windows again, and what, no touch screen?.

Please help a lost soul.....
Tom

I thought the Centro was too small for me; however, after a bit of time, I have concluded that I willl not go to a device any larger, regardless of the OS. One-handed operation is the things for me.

Default Anyone for windows on Plam?

Thanks Benjie, I'm swinging back and forth in my indecisiveness. I'd also like a small device so, well we'll see.

I've gotten quite used to having a 3G connection. They're dismantling or at least moving the GSM senders down lower the masts in favor of the 3G senders here in Sweden.

It is a difficult decision. If the next Windows Treo is like the Centro, I will give it serious consideration. Though frankly, the extra steps to accomplish the same thing is something I do not look forward to.

I've used a Treo 650p for nearly 3 yrs. and really hope the 800 is a useful upgrade - reduced size, increased RAM, better management of documents, same definition screen, etc. I hope it will come out for ATT.

Question Most likely Palm OS anyway

Hi, thanks for your posts. Now I've been stuck with this symbian SE P1i for another week and you know what? I stopped entering things in it just because it's sooooo cumbersome. I also tried using a Samsung WM6 device, i780 and it's the same thing ages to boot, not really fast, 15 or so clicks to get into the calendar, separate fields to open-edit-close kind of operation drives you nuts. I don't think that WM6.1 will be any different.

So, Centro, here I come......( I think... God I'm so ambivalent)

Default Fixed my old 650

What do you know? I managed to fix the ghost headset problem by some soldering work recommended at this site. Quite amazing what some people can find out from just reading some detailed specs. And the guide to do it whas really good.

I think I'll just shut up about fixing it and get me a new one from the company anyway
