    Default New Treo User-Issues

In theory the Treo 700p is great--a phone, planner and mini-computer so the laptop can spend more time at home. However, it has proved to be a nightmare to get the functions up and running. After 8 hours and many conversations with Apple and Verizon, the upshot was Apple's saying that iSync didn't yet include the Treo 700p in its software/device list. And that it would be weeks before that would happen. I found it impossible to find a phone number for Palm, no surprise--if I'd released the 700p prematurely, I'd keep my phone number a secret, too. Ultimately, I managed to get the wireless sync up and running so that my email is delivered automatically to the Treo, and I can access the net anytime. I got it to sync with iCal once and then lost it. Don't ask me how I got even the most success, my brain was so fried by the time it was syncing wirelessly that I can't remember. Have not been able to duplicate the sync with iCal. I'll give it a few days and then try again--unless anyone out there has had success.

The Verizon people were not up to speed on the Mac OS 10.4.6. Apple didn't have an answer for the sync problem either. So I fault Verizon for releasing the gadget prematurely. That's not going to win them any friends.

    Hi Athena-
First off, please check your email regarding a site registration issue.

Secondly, let me try and help with your Treo 700p issues. I've set up two with Mac's over the past week and things are working well -- one of which was a Verizon Wireless 700p.

Here's the process I went through...

    1. First off, I'd avoid Verizon's Wireless Sync as many here have reported that it causes issues with the Mac syncing process.
    2. Back up your user folder - Go into your documents > Palm > User and option-click-drag a copy of your user folder (usually your name) to the desktop. This will create a copy a backup of your user folder just in case.
    3. Install the Palm OS software that came with your Treo 700p
    4. Do a hard reset of your Treo 700p. CAUTION: This will bring your Treo back to it's factory state.
    5. Perform a HotSync to make sure everything the Treo is communicating with HotSync manager and your Mac.
    6. Open up your applications folder and locate iSync.
    7. Open iSync and go to Devices > Enable Palm OS Syncing
    8. Go to your Applications folder and open up your Palm folder...launch HotSync Manager.
    9. Go to the Menu HotSync > Conduit Settings > Double Click on iSync conduit and check Enable iSync for this Palm Device
    10. Go back to your Treo, press the HOME button or Application Laucher and locate the HotSync application. Press the HotSync icon to initiate a HotSync between your Mac and your Treo.

That's it! Information should be moved from your iApps into your Treo.

    -Chris
