treo 270 fatal alert - Treo Forums

Hello everyone,
I just got a used treo 270 as a gift. I had a palm tungsten E backed up on my computer. The tungsten broke. I put the 270 software on my computer,placed the 270 in its cradle, pushed the synch button on the cradle of the 270 and got this message:

Fatal Alert message
SystemMagr.c,Line:154,
Unimplimented

reset

Can anyone help me get out of this? I cannot get out of this loop. I press the reset and hit the reset in the back of the machine to no avail. Also all the info on my computer is unavailable since when I try to open the palm backup on my computer it just says can't open and closes the program!

First of all, these are basically incompatible devices. There is little these two have in common. There are some things that the Tungsten does that the 270 cannot. So I would suggest not backing it up with the Tungsten stuff. If possible, download the Palm desktop that is compatible with the 270 from the Palm website, the link to the general page for that device is:

With the 270 you are basically starting from scratch. I found with the 300 that I had there were many programs that it would not run.

Well, I didn't know that and tried syncing after loading the treo software. Now my palm info is not accessable. When I try to open the program to get tel #'s on my computer, (which is the backup) I get a message saying that there is trouble and can't open the program. Very frustrating. Is there a way to undo the foulup? I want to be able to get my address book back.

Make copies of your address and phone book - put them in a folder out of the way.

Next, uninstall the Palm desktop you have. After uninstalling the current Palm desktop, rename the user name to something wild and exciting, anything reall, just rename it.

Next, download the 270 desktop and install it. If you can access your address book, copy it to the address book folder in the new desktop. You can also try with the others. Remember COPY, not MOVE.

If your Treo 270 is all messed up, then do a hard reset. If it is not all messed up, then set the conduits to 'device over writes desktop' and attempt to do a hot sync.
