Default Unable to hotsync

Aloha from Hawaii al you Treo 650 users.
I have been unable to hotsync since March. I have downloaded up-dates, I have bought a new cable/cradle set, I have removed and re-added the Palm program off the site and off my original disc several times, I have called and e-mailed Palm, Sprint, etc. for help, all to no avail. I still can no longer get my PC and my handheld to connect. What's a girl to do?? Any ideas orhter than what I have already tried would be much appreciated and rewarded with a mai-tai-by-mail??!! if you like...

Hello, Linda, and welcome to ET. What exactly happens when you try to sync? Is there no connection made between the Treo and your PC? Do you even hear the connect tone when you press either the hotsync button on the cable or the icon on the Treo? Have you tried a hard reset at all?

Thank you for asking. I can see the HotSync screen on my phone that says it is " connecting with my desktop using cradle/cable". There is no sound of connection and eventually the message pops up: "the connection btwn your handheld & desktp could not be established. Pl check your settings..." I have not tried a hard set because all my data is in my phone and I have no back-up since March. Linda.

I've had that error pop up before on my 650. A hard reset and a clean install fixed it. Hopefully, that will work for you.

Do you have an SD card? If so, how about this: getting a backup app (BackupMan, Backup Buddy, etc., I believe they all offer trials before you purchase) and performing a backup. As far as getting the app onto your phone without being able to sync, download and save the .prc file to your pc, then email it to yourself so you can retrieve it on the Treo.

Once you've done the backup, get ready for the hard reset. Make sure to rename your backup folder "backupold" or something, and I'd recommend moving it out of the directory, like to your desktop or someplace. Also, don't leave the card with the backup in for the reset (or at least don't select to restore from your most recent backup). If you have a corrupt file screwing with your sync conduit, you don't want to put it right back onto your Treo.

After the hard reset, do a sync, which will create a new backup folder on your PC. I'd load just your contacts from the old folder, sync again, and see how everything goes. Then, add whatever apps you might have one at a time. That way, if a problem pops up, you can identify it.
