AT & T aware of unlocked Centro? - Treo Forums

I recently bought a Centro from AT & T and want to buy the insurance for it. No problem I know but I unlocked it so I can use it on T-Mobile as well. If I have problems and need to utilize my insurance for a replacement will they be able to tell that I have unlocked it and does that make the insurance null and void? I haven't bought it yet, waiting on one of Palm experts here to help me out!! No need in wasting my money if they will know.

They will know if it is unlocked and yes you will not be covered under the insurance plan.

How does one unlock it for t-mobile? I am interested to buy one from AT&T but want to be sure I can do so first.

Hi:

You would need to obtain the unlock code from AT&T and hope TMobile will allow it to be used on their network. You could also pay a service (can be in $30-$75 range and they can't always get unlock codes for all devices. They should not charge if they can't) to obtain the unlock code, but you will still have to hope TMo allows it.

I bought my code off Ebay. You would pay about 10-15 bucks for one. It costs me about $10 and the instructions were so easy my 11yr old could have done it. If that is the route you choose to go make sure that it is a permanent unlock code. And it works on T-Mobile's network just fine. Good luck!

I also see that the palm store UK is selling unlocked GSM centros for L199 (about $390US). Perhaps I will get a friend there to buy one and ship it to me. I figure shipping will be less than a contract I don't want anyway. Has anyone else done this?
