Default Centro battery

I have a Centro - it runs through the battery quickly - Palm and Sprint do not know why - my son has one also and his does not do this - I must have an application that is constantly running - but can't figure it out - does anyone have this problem? I have replaced the battery and even have a new phone - and it still is doing this - help!

If you are in an area with a poor signal, the device will discharge at a faster than normal rate. If you are running an application that maintains a data connection, it will also cause the device to discharge at a faster rate. If you are listening to music via the speaker, it will also cause the device to discharge at a faster rate - the speaker eats a lot of energy - a headset will cause it to last a bit longer.

Default Centro Battery

Thanks, Ben, but none of those apply - that I can figure out - I am in a good signal area, I do not have auto email check going, and I have no music on my unit. I agree - something must be running - but I cannot figure out what - one thought is there is some corrupt data somewhere - but I cannot figure out what it might be - perhaps in outlook?

Have you added any third-party software to the device? Did you, or someone else using the PC you hotsync with, ever have another Palm device installed? I am assuming the Centro is too new to have a firmware update, correct?

Does your son sync to a different PC? Have you compared your firmware and software versions to his to see if they are the same?

Looks like there are numerous people with similar problems posting in the Palm boards. Here is one that a Palm Tech lists various issues, but it is apparent there are many with the problem who aren't included in the tech's list of possible culprits. I used "centro battery" as the search term.

The big suspect is the Sprint email program. There is a flaw and it is recommended to use VersaMail (who thought you would see that, eh?). Many with the battery problem claim they never even set up the email though.

This seems to affect some hardware and not others. May need a firmware update....

If I find more I will let you know.

By the way, there is a sister site to ET, EverythingCentro. You might want to take a look over there and maybe start a thread in the forums if a search doesn't give you what you are looking for. There was at least one mention of a similar battery issue here. Oh yes, your ET user name and password should get you in over there too.

Sprint Mobile E-Mail is a glitched program that continually reconnects to the server if any of the login information is incorrect. It's being addressed by the developer of the program now.

Also, consider usage on the device. Usage is the most probably culprit. Backlight settings, roaming settings, and BLUETOOTH settings can have effects on battery life.

Perhaps most importantly, consider that the software and hardware from the Centro and the Treo 755 are almost identical to one another. Then, consider that the Centro battery is half the size of the 755's. Think that might have something to do with it?

Default Centro Battery Issues? Ask the automatic Day/Time setting

Hi.
I found recently that my Centro had battery issue all of the sudden. I tried to figure out what I changed, and ... I remembered I set automatic date and time update from the telecom operator. I quickly unckecked the option and... yes! The battery was up and runnong again.

Maybe is this the final solution to your problem?
