help 700w/700p!
Ok, first a bit of history for those that havent seen my post way earlier when i did own a 700w. purchased a 700w when they first came out. Mostly for the PDA/cell phone idea. I use a PDA everyday, so why not have both in one. So i had the 700w. I had no complaints exept for the cellular reception seemed to be rather terrible. at my house i usually have 2-3 bars. with the 700w i would have 0-1 bar. So i couldnt afford to lose phone calls so i got rid of it. now im hearing about this new 700p that is out and have heard on a couple of occasions that they have better cell reception. I didint get a chance to setup the email dealio with the 700w but i would with the 700p if i decide to purchase it. I cant decide which I want between the 700w and 700p. But i will say im not that all into electronic gagdets but if i can watch movies, get immediate email messages, have GOOD cellular reception , why not have it. Now i am familiar with the palm os as far as PDA's are concerned. for example if you are in a program you must go home to get into soemthing else. If it were windows you can choose a "back" button. Someone please help me out. which am I better off with...700w or 700p...and if its the 700w have their been any updates to the bad cell reception? sorry for the long post...............thanks

If you've had the 700w and returned because of bad cell coverage, then your answer "might" be the 700p. A lot of the same hardware is used on the 700p that's used in the 700w. Who is your carrier? Is this typical with regular phones? Is it possible that you got a problematic 700w?
The Treo 700p runs the Palm OS which is much different from Windows Mobile 5. If you are familiar with the Palm OS and enjoyed your Treo 700w, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't like the 700p. It's got a lot of the things you probably liked with your Treo 700w, but running on Palm's OS.
I spent 6 months or so using the 700w and now use the 700p (and the Moto Q, but that's another story). I do miss the Today screen, but the 700p has bit more pep to it. Fast device and they made some nice interface enhancements.
Check with your provider and see if they'll allow you to return if you have problems with reception.

Verizon is my carrier. I am almost tempted to try another 700w. I should have done that in the first place instead of getting frustrated. Your right it could have been just a problematic treo that i got. I hear programs will most likely be made for the windows based treo before the palm based treo....any truth to that? I was reading a post over on TC that reminded me of how dangerous it was to try and locate someone on the contact list while driving, with the 700w. Is it the same with the 700p?

I started out with the Treo 700w on January 5th, got rid of it in April just before the ROM fix got the XV6700 got rid of it 6 weeks later, got the Treo 700w with the ROM fix, it fell and was able to swap it out for the Treo 700p.
Same basic hardwre but I am able to get 1-2 bars at my house on the Treo 700p compared to 1 bar on the Treo 700w. Not great but better.
One handed use I think Palm did a decent job on the Treo 700w but the MS interface gets in the way here. The Palm OS is showing its age and really needs an overhaul and the lack of multi-tasking is NOT the killer here for me. The Treo 700w would be better IF it had 64MB of RAM and a better screen. Screen aside the lack of RAM is a joke by Palm and obviously by the upcoming Vodaphone launch Verizon cusotmers got the short end since the GSM crowd could have the better phone on the Treo 700w.
In the end I would say try the 700p and see its any better and if not get a Treo 700w or find someone who does have one to try at your house.
My PDA History: Palm Vx; M505;TungstenT; NX60; ipaq1910; I700; Treo600; I700; hx4700; MPx220; hw6515, Treo 700w, XV6700, Treo 700p. Currently using both Treo 700w & Treo 700p.
