Kyocera 7135 not ringing/help with new smartphone choice
I need help as to which phone to buy or wait for.
I have a kyocera 7135 and the ringer has died. The vibration works but no sound to alert me.
I am on Verizon.
I want to stay with Palm OS and hope that I will somehow be able to transfer all my data from back-ups on my computer with a sync.
I use the calendar prog. regularly. I have all my contacts categorized (all,business,etc.). Voice dial is used often.
I have found it very confusing as to choices and which would be best.
I have seen the various 700 models, the upcoming 680 and the HTC 8525?, etc.
I would really appreciate feedback and help.
Thank you!!

I have a 600, 650, 700p and 700w. The kids use the 600, the wife the 650 and me the 700p and 700w.
The 700p is an excellent device once the you get the memory problems taken care of, and that really is not too difficult. My choice and recommendation is the 700p.
As a note, you cannot sync the 7135 applications to the new device. You can do the PIMs as the desktop will do the conversion; the apps themselves no. This is the time to update all of your applications to the newest releases and then install them one-at-a-time - seriously, do not sync your stuff from the 7135.

New phone
Thank you for your response.
What do I need to do for the memory problems?
With your obvious experience with many models do you have any input on the upcoming 680?
Thank you once agian!

My opinion: Since you are on Verizon, the 700P makes more sense than waiting on the 680. The 680 will be introduced in a few days on Cingular as a GSM model. Who knows if or when Verizon/Sprint will ever see this model. Since the 700 P supports the faster data of Sprint/Verizon and the 680 doesn't (edge) Ben's advice is still very solid! If you were on Cingular already, the 680 still might not be a bad move, just from a price viewpoint! $300 introductory is the rumored price of the 680! Since your already with Verizon, and assuming you are happy with your service, my vote would be go for the 700.

New 700p
Thank you for your feedback.
I have the 700p now and am very happy with it.
Just need help with apps/sites, etc.

Some advise then from the group. If you have not started installing applications on it, then by all means make the first application an installation manager - the big guy on the block is "Uninstall Manager." This application or one similar to it makes deleting/monitoring applications much easier. The default launcher does not always catch all the files an application creates, Uninstall manager does and that results in a Treo that has fewer problems.
A third party launcher to maximize free memory. The 700p has a good amount of memory; but frankly, you can never have enough free memory.
The next application is backup program that backs up to the SD card.
Make your device a nagger - that is, make it be routinely nag you of an alarm. Butler does a good job with this. Butler also has a few options that assist with stability.
These are just a few starting points. A search of the forums will expand the above and give you a good starting point.
