At this time it is rumor and specualtion. Expected delivery of whatever it turns out to be is Q1 2009, which in real terms and based on previous release expectations may easily become Q2 2009.
I am sure Chris is much more tuned in to this so I look forward to his response.

Thanks Steve---since I am sort of an analog guy in a digital world this question / concern might be silly BUT would I still be able to merely sync the new device to my Palm Desktop to load it up. I have been using the same one since the original Kyocera and merely updated the Palm desktop software maybe once.

Not a silly question at all. However, it would be premature to speculate or provide any kind of answer and have any confidence the speculation would be accurate.
That said, as a Palm user since 1996-97, I would find it difficult to believe that Palm would abandon completely the user base they have (millions?) and make the new system unable to port over the Palm Desktop data. I do believe they will have a different version as they do for Vista, but it should be backwards-compatible.
That is strictly my opinion and not based on any knowledge or fact. :gasp:
I might be inclined to hedge my bets though and create a backup of my data residing in Outlook because I believe that would continue to be supported, but again, it is a guess as to what they will do.
I am sure that as it draws closer this will be discussed ad-nauseum and people will have plenty of warning and time to prepare.
It is probably not something to lose sleep over....

Steve--not sure what you mean by "create a backup of my data residing in Outlook...." How do I transfer all the stuff in my Palm Desktop to Outlook??
To complicate things, I guess I would have to create an additional "user" in Outlook since my Outlook has all kinds of stuff / contacts that I don't need or want in my Treo.

I guess, that deep down, I am really hoping that palm will bring out a new OS and a real kicking smartphone.
I prefer my MAC so, Windows OS is not an option right now.
I have been looking at the iPhone (and playing with it) andit does lack several things that my 680 has. But the wifi is a nice touch on the iphone. I can only hope and pray that the new palm OS will allow wifi and Bluetooth (not just for headsets).
Anyone have heard, seen any rumors to this supposed 2009 announcement/delivery?

Phone: Treo 680...now? Waiting for the new Palm Pre. Waited and went to the iPhone. So now the Pre is on GSM...what to do??

Sometime in 09 some rumors of a release in Q1 I am thinking by end of June. Hopefully Palm will live that long.

Amen. We run Linux on our desktops and keep the faith that Palm will deliver. Otherwise, for me personally, the Blackberry is just looking better and better -- I'll find some way to deal with the sync'ing issues.

Yeah, I might have to do the same thing soon. Dunno even if I can wait to Q2 in 2009.
Chris, the Administrator here said in another entry that he has noticed migration. I wonder if he had any numbers on that and to what PDA? The iphone or BBerry?
Having used and been happy with a treo 680, 650 and palm PIM handhelds, T1, T3 before that...all I can do is hope that if I need to switch over, it will be painless since all my info is the 680.

I'm not sure to which unit Palm users are migrating in any numbers -- I just know that iPhones strike me as cute toys, but not really practical for high-end or business users. If Palm can deliver on an improved OS (please God!) and the kind of power and applications business customers need, they'll keep my business in turn.
If not - hey the Blackberry is good enough for our president-elect, it could be good enough for me.

Well he's going through some intense negotiations to try to keep his crackberry.
