Well I was all ready to order another 650 through Cingular (refurbed) and it was the wife who talked me out of it. . . . She knows what a gadget freak I am, and reminded me that shortly after the first of the year, there are all kinds of new devices hitting the market. Whatever I buy, it will be out of contract, or unlocked . . .

But with that said, let me say this . . . More times than not, there is a price to be paid for cutting edge . . . I am not talking about $$$ as much as ending up being a beta tester and paying $$$$$$ to do it. Believe me, when I say, that when I do buy, a Treo 650 is certainly not out of the question. But my next phone??? It very well could be a version of that picture with Cingular's UMTS data!!!! Also, although I know this is primarily a Palm OS board, but I am suddenly liking what I am seeing in WM05! Its not perfect, but it does do some things better than POS. . . . Trouble is, I have been a Palm guy of some kind for about 8 years now . . . I had a serious love affair with that Visor stuff . . Kind of feel like I am about to cheat on my wife when I start talking about an attraction to Windows, you know??

Well, interms of stability and a solid buy, the 650 cannot be beat right now. Its a mature device, and the attention it has gotten from the market has lent to Palm keeping it alive a tick longer than they initally projected. Great for all of us when that happens.

Waiting is not a bad thing either. One just has to realaize that getting the latest and greatest always makes one a beta tester to some degree. Thats not a bad thing, if you play it right, your total value over the life of the device will be much higher. Its always a question of what and when with tech.

As for me, the 650 is wanted due to some of the imporvements over the 600 that make it a better device for my lifestyle. Also, since I am always in teh business of updating and giving my old stuff away, I like to be able to have a device that will have value for the person that will receive it down the line. Usually, that is the case with PalmOS PDAs. In any case, one has to buy with a vision of where the device fits in. If you are purchasing like that, its rare that you will buy any device at the wrong time or wrong place.
