Handheld makers are almost always cagey about their plans for upcoming devices.
However, Palm's CEO has decided to at least mention some of the new products his company has on the drawing board..
"We'll roll out the Palm Treo 700w smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile, and we'll announce three additional new smartphones during calendar year 2006," Ed Colligan said.
He did not, however, reveal any additional details on these.
Unofficial Info
Colligan may have been unwilling to say much about the three smartphones on the docket for next year, but other people haven't been so reticent.
Some industry analysts have revealed some details on these models.
The first, code-named Hollywood, will run the Palm OS and use a very thin design with no external antenna.
It will be released during the second quarter of 2006 by Verizon Wireless, and will support that company's EV-DO high-speed wireless network.
Hollywood might also be available from Sprint.
Sometime around the middle of next year, Palm will announce its first mid-range Treo.
Code-named Lowrider, this model will cost about $200.
At this time, it is not known if this will be Palm OS or Windows Mobile smartphone.
This company is also expected to release a GSM/GPRS version of the Treo 700 next summer, but this doesn't really count as a new model.
Near the end of the year, Palm will introduce another Palm OS Treo. This will be offered by Cingular Wireless and will support this carrier's UMTS network.

That looks like some fancy Photoshop work. I can't imagine Palm putting their Orange logo flush center on the device. Plus, it looks more like a 650 then a 700.

I wonder just how much it will look like the 700w? Maybe it's a departure from the 700w? Only time will tell. I'm looking forward to seeing the Hollywood.

That device pictured was a mockup. It was a reported fake, but jsut might be really close to teh real thing. I would think the keys would change, and it would be a touch thinner and less plump.

Well, I can say this: Palm should take note! I really was liking the looks of it. Thinner might be good, not sure about changing keys, but I certainly like the looks of that photo!

so, by that article are they saying the 700 treo with the Palm OS is going to launch in January too? It would be nice to have a date when it will come out for Sprint so I can decide if i should wait for the 700 or get the 650 now

I think it said 2nd quarter of 06 for Hollywood, but other sites are saying that hollywood is WM05 device and not Palm . . . One needs to wait a while until the net smoke clears a little I believe . . .
