Advertising on Everything network

All good things come to an end at some point. Starting yesterday, you might have noticed the Everything sites are no longer "ad-free". In case you haven't noticed, for the most part this site never accepted external advertising such as Google ads, etc.

After much thought and deliberation, I've decided to accept advertising on the site. I've done my best to incorporate the ads into the look and design of the site. There are only a few spots available to potential advertisers, so that the site does not become inundated with ads. I certainly do not want to affect the usability of the site. With any new venture, there will be some bumps along the way and I'll do what I can to smooth these over.

For those browsing the site with your Treo, the forums will automatically display the Treo friendly, ad-free version.

Well, today an annoying pop-up Verizon ad laying over the thread lists appeared each time I signed on and while it did disappear pretty quickly, it did momentarily interrupt my experience and it is not exactly something I expected to see.

Have you had to expand the advertising program or is this something you can't pick and choose due to agreements/circumstances. Maybe it is a regional thing.

Note that this does not reach the level of saying I won't come back (not even close) if you don't stop, but I am just a bit curious. As I previously stated I do understand the need to generate revenue. I just had to get over my shyness and let you know that for me the pop-up types are a tad more unpleasant.

I suppose it isn't fair to expect you to explain yourself, but hey, you are the one who brought it up first!!!!

I'm going to talk with them on Tuesday. Quite honestly, it surprised me as I didn't agree to those type of ads.

FWIW...When I logged in from work this morning I did NOT see the pop-up. Not sure if the firewall here could be at work. However, other sites do produce pop-ups here.

Just thought I would mention it.

I've had them remove all pop-up advertising. You shouldn't see anything of that sort, at least in the foreseeable future.

And if it is inevitable, so be it. There are many worse things that can happen.

I am sure we all still love you for giving us this fine communication vehicle.
