Default Carriers/network capabilities

Does anyone have a link to a good resource that explains the differences between some of the networks that are being used by the various carriers.

For example, What really is the difference between Edge, EvDO and CDMA2000 and which carriers are using them.

CNET has an overview of the various technologies.

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. Their data connection is EVDO.
AT&T (Cingular) and T-Mobile are GSM phones. They use EDGE and HSDPA. The latter being faster.

GSM is the more predominant technology outside of the US.

For me, SIM card=GSM. No SIM card=CDMA.

You can see the speed difference between EDGE and EVDO by looking at this chart in the Treo 680 review. I haven't compared HSDPA, but I believe it's either faster or on par with EVDO.

EVDO rocks at almost a top speed of 2MB

I have gotten to 660KBPS in Orlando and Charlotte, NC

Verizon uses it to but they limit speeds to around 125KBPS

Does anyone know if Palm has allowed for a SIM card in the 755p
(i.e., Will it ever be available from Cingular?)

I am also dying to know whether Sprint really has an exclusive deal on the 755p or if they just got it first for a few weeks. I have noticed that the Cingular exclusive on the 750 has been in place for at least 8 mos. I can't wait that long for a Palm OS, 3G, 128 MB phone from Cingular.
