Informative Verizon FIOS Install

Well, tomorrow I'll be spending part of my day waiting for FIOS to be installed. I've been using Cablevisions Optimum Online, but I think I'll see better speeds with FIOS. According to Speakeasy, I'm at the following speeds:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 7333 kbps (916.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1778 kbps (222.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'm looking to double both.. These are also on the high side for me. I've seen worse speeds at various times during the day - when others are sharing the network.

Default router

Hi Chris -

I've read somewhere that with VZ FIOS, you are forced to use their router and cannot use your own. Is there any truth to that?

Thanks.

I think they force you to use their router during the initial install, but I've heard of people using their own routers (LinkSys) after the install. I'm using their DI-624 DLink Router and it's been pretty good. I might get an extender antenna, but some of my connections are directly wired to the router.
