So, last Tuesday morning, 11.01.05, before heading into work, I hop on the road bike and head out for the water. It's about six miles to Marina Del Rey from my house and makes for a good, quick workout. Well, I was about five miles in, just a mile from the beach when I'm hammering it really good. I think I was cruising about 20 MPH on a flat with a slight headwind. I felt strong, like bull! I was amazed at myself. Then, all of a sudden, like someone pushed a button, I felt a sharp twinge in my chest. Then my head started getting all fuzzy and it was hard to breathe. I thought I had pushed myself too hard and slowed down to let the feeling pass. It didn't, and I called the Mrs. and she drove out to pick me up.
Got home and thought I could lie down and let it pass. No dice. Took a quick shower, shaved and donned some clean underwear. (See, I did hear you, Mom!) And headed straight for the emergency room.
There they ran a battery of tests and determined it was my heart. A quick trip to the cath lab and my newly-introduced cardiologist was poking a tube into my groin and performing an angiogram. Too bizarre seeing my insides on the monitor.
They found a clogged artery and inserted a stainless steel stent, essentially it's a metal mesh tube that goes inside the clogged artery. Then they inserted a long thin balloon into the stent and inflated it. This caused the stent to expand and push the walls of the clogged part of my artery outwards and allow the blood to flow freely again.
This was Tuesday morning and by Thursday morning, I was back home wandering around looking for something to do. I've already been cleared to go back to work and travel.
Here's a pic of my arm:

Check out the swanky 42" Plasma Screen I had in my room! There are more pics on my SplashBlog I took with the Treo. Fun stuff!
So, if I'm not posting as much lately, you'll know I'm too busy napping!
