This guys really know what he is saying and he speaks the truth, i agree with him totally and what he says is that if palm does not wake up they will die, it is true webOS is ahead of other mobile OS's but has major short comings.
Pre so easy to use even a caveman can use it.

yea. I just read it on precentral. TRUTH. The phone rocks! Yes. But stop making excuses for Palm. The market is not the same as when iphone 1.0 dropped.... That's all I'll say

This is what i have been saying from day one, that when palm released the pre they should have included lot more then they did and if they couldnt do it then within the next 2 updates all the minor things should have been fixed. Till today's day they are not fixed only patched and this is not right, I understand that palm is small company so if they cant pay out source some of the items to other programmers so they can help palm.
They could have build better hardware, better more solid slider but lets not start that road. This guy hit the nail right on the head.
Pre so easy to use even a caveman can use it.

lol...just the stuff about the programing that I won't even pretend to understand what he is talking about. I've never used and apple, but have played around with the newer android phones and still don't think that operating system is better than WebOS.
But....I remember playing with the G1, and Android has come a long way in a less than a year. I was playing with the Samsung Moment today while I was getting my replacement Pre (number 2) and for a minute....

I still love my Pre, WebOS does have a few shortcomings but huge potential! Plus its still pretty new, when devices are available all across the board it opens the playing field for Palm. This has been one of the main reason why RIM has been successful in the post-iphone era, imo.

I was wondering the other day: what if Palm has (quietly) changed their target audience and is simply trying to sell to Mom and Pop Average and not the geeks in us? If Mom and Pop Average only wants a phone that is fun to use, keep tracks of their calendar events, contacts, allows them access social networking sites, text, etc, etc then number-wise Palm just might succeed. I see the Pre is slowly climbing the ranks (in a bad economy) so who knows: perhaps they really do know what they are doing. Perhaps we who are previous Palm users are not the target audience - at least at this time.

I think you make a good point. Who are they marketing to and who is buying it?
I saw it mentioned in a comment somewhere that all this homebrew, patch stuff might be alienating customers. The first thing people hear is, "Oh you just got a Pre, you need to root it, install Preware, followed by homebrew apps". If you're aiming for bigtime market share, that's not the audience that's going to get you there. But are they the bulk of current owners? Power users, tweakers, etc.
I think there is another audience that is using and loving the Pre. Articles like the one above don't consider the mainstream consumer. I do think he makes some very fair and valid points. I don't think we're on the ledge just yet and that's the sense I got when reading it.

I should also note that being active in forums, you often see the "not so great" stories about a phone. Forums are typically filled with problems and troubleshooting. Being surrounded by constant issues could lead you to form an opinion based upon that subset.
