Default Google Apps Email Setup Help

    Hey everyone,

Just got the pre. One small problem. I can't seem to synchronize my google apps account. Does anyone know what the server and port settings should be? I was hoping to back into it by looking at the configuration of gmail, but I can't find that page.

    Thanks!

    Incoming...imap.gmail.com
    Outgoing...smtp.gmail.com

I set mine up the same way and my email is working - at least I can receive, but I'm getting an error on sending. Still working on that.

Also, it doesn't have my contacts from that account and I haven't been able to verify if it's pulling my calendar from there either. Anyone else get their contacts and calendar syncing from Google Apps?

Over on PreCentral.net a user (Kyusaku) suggested setting up the account in Contacts rather than through the email tab. I went back and set it up that way and my calendar and contacts started syncing, which was great. However, I still had problems sending emails until I used port 587 instead of 465. Success!!!! So use port 587 in the smtp settings section if you're having problems sending email from your Google Apps account. Hope this helps.

I'm having problems with gmail over wifi. I can send/receive just fine over Sprint's network, but when over wifi I can only receive email, and not send it. I get the "Email Application Error: Error sending (subject title)" error and the email just sits in the Outbox. I've tried changing the outgoing port from 465 to 587 as well as 25 but none of those work. Any ideas??

I have the same problem from time to time. I'm thinking that my local internet provider (Suddenlink) may be blocking outgoing mail on any smtp port. I've seen the exact same error, but the email ends up getting sent. So I don't know if it ends up sending it via Sprint's network or what. I'm going to have to do some testing on this.

    Default gmail setup

I haven't had any issue with my gmail just my calendar. I have my settings at IMAP port 993 incoming with SSL Encryption, and port 465 for outgoing with SSL encryption. I had my calendar working at first but when I added an appointment online it would not sync. Any one figure this out.

Smile Deleting and re-creating account works

I could read my mail but could not send without a login credential failure ( to see the failure press the Outbox title bar when there is a yellow triangle on the right side). I tried to change the settings but as soon as I enabled User Authentication to On the phone seemed to lock up and refused to save my preferences. The only way I got around this was to delete the gmail account and then recreate the mail account. All the icons etc come back when you recreate the account so the pre does recognize the email address as special and correctly configures it as a gmail account so don't worry about that when you delete the account. One caveat though is my original setting was for IMAP so no messages were stored on the phone. I think if it had been POP I would have lost permanently the local copies of my downloaded emails. After recreation the correct settings are automatically put in the account preferences and now sending mail works. I checked out the preferences and the server, port and encryption were: smtp.gmail.com,456,SSL. But this time the User Authentication was On.
