News: Palm Giving Up iTunes Sync?
There has been no word from Palm on whether or not iTunes sync will return. Many thought it might debut in webOS 1.2.0, but it was quickly debunked. So where does that leave this feature? In looking at the wording on Palm’s product descriptions for both the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi, it doesn’t appear this feature is going to return any time soon. The Palm Pre lists support, but now includes the footnote, “Compatible with iTunes 8.2. Compatibility with future versions not guaranteed.” The Palm Pixi description is cleverly worded and alludes to support for getting non-DRM music from iTunes to the Pixi, but gone are references to the media sync feature.

I think they should. If anything, they need to focus on making their own sync software. It would be easier. I'm know sure why iTunes syncing is so important. Maybe they need to talk to MS about syncing with Zune Marketplace??
I like DoubleTwist. It works great.
Chris: Have you tried DoubleTwist?

No, never really had a need to. I rarely listen to music on my Pre or my iPhone for that matter. I'm actually using the Zune HD now, which I love. My iPods/iPhone syncs on the Mac side of things with iTunes and I use Zune software in Boot Camp for the Zune HD.
DoubleTwist has some major announcement coming. I'm curious to hear more about it. My current method works, but it's not perfect. I'd love to have one Mac based app that syncs all my devices, but I think that's too much to ask.
I did take advantage of iTunes syncing when I first got my Pre. I've got a good selection of songs, should I head to the gym and forget one of my MP3 players.

Wait! Wait! SHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh! Dont tell anybody but Im going to tell ya a secret guys! Quick! Make sure no one is on the other side of the door and lock it.
DONT UPDATE EFFING ITUNES! Seriously, an iTunes account that hasnt been updated 6 months ago will function and most likely be the exact same thing. I havent updated my iTunes since the first time Apple went to bat with the Pre and Im still happy go lucky.

I can't help myself. I'm update crazy. Plus, I had to update to confirm it was busted.
I guess you could always uninstall iTunes 9 and then go back to 8.2, if you really needed this feature.

I'm gonna get a Zune HD for my wife soon as I can free up some extra cash. Get myself one for Xmas.
I have the a Zune 80GB. I've been trying to get it to work on my MacBook Air using Parallels. I can connect, but I cant sync or download from the Zune Marketplace. Is Boot Camp a better option? And what do I need to do??

Good for you Palm. It was time to give up. Screw iTunes, it's not that great --I'd even argue that it's terrible on Windows from what I've seen and heard.
At first it hurts to step outside the Apple ecosystem but it is possible to use a mac and avoid the majority of Apple's software. I use Songbird in lieu of iTunes. it's definitely not for everyone, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that isn't a geek and open source fanboy. Since I stream music to two airport expresses (one in the garage, one in my bathroom) I needed a solution for that and bought Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba. It's really neat, and lets you install a client piece on other computers in the house (windows, linux, or mac) to use them as if they were an airport express (albeit only with Airfoil, not with the native Airport Express support in iTunes). Plus you can stream audio from any specific app or the whole system in general. It's not perfect, it won't sync up audio with video perfectly (not sure if Airtunes does as I never used iTunes as a video player) and it's a little slower to get connected.
It's kinda cool when you step outside of Apple's ecosystem and find that there are other companies and people making great software
