It made a great theft recovery or loss prevention mechanism for our phones. Some kid at my son's school stole his phone in gym class. After school i was able to track it to his home. I paid a friendly visit to his parents.

Needless to say, the kid was in shock and immediately returned the phone. Seeing the look on the kids face, I doubt he would ever steal again. I simply said thank you and left, leaving his parents to deal with it from there.
Anyway I was hoping the Pre would also have this ability. I have many friends who lost there iPhones and had to buy new ones. And I would tell them that with the Pre and the family locator, they could have recovered it. Oh well so much for that!!!

dont be too discouraged... this service will be available soon on the pre... Sprint makes a great amount of money from consumers who like this feature... im sure they are already working on a way for the Pre to be able to have this feature on it... If not then im sure there will be an application around that would allow you to have something similar
This is a pretty cool story...

I agree that it is very wierd that they would not have this capibility at Launch

Far be it for me to disagree with any FAQ (authorized or not) I wouldn't be so sure at this time it will be unavailable. In face, in all the demos, info on sprint proprietary programming has been absolutely scarce. I think the sprint overlays will be the last thing added, and until we see a final product, released by sprint, we can't be too sure about what sprint-only type things will or will not be available.
