Lightbulb Touchstone in Car (CUSTOM) L@@K

Hello everyone. I finally installed my touchstone in my mitsubishi eclipse. It's a 1996 (still in excellent shape) but I decided since I am the final owner of this car (will dive it till it dies) I'd drill a hole in my dashboard!!! Here are the steps I took for this install.

    1. I bought a Duracell 110 V adapter that converts my car's DC current into 110V AC current. It was about $30.
    http://www.duracellpower.com/power-i...0-and-175.aspx

    2. I drilled a hole through my car's dashboard (very carefully). I had to take my car's CD player out to get my hands in there as well.

    3. I realized my car stereo did NOT have an AUX INPUT so I was very upset. However, I did some research and found out that if your car has a CD CHANGER hookup in the stereo you can buy a CD CHANGER to AUX INPUT cable. I found one on ebay for $12! It works AWESOME.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JVC-TO-RCA-3-5MM-MP3-PLAYER-AUX-CD-CHANGER-INPUT-CABLE_W0QQitemZ270407489128QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOthe r_MP3_Player_Accessories?hash=item3ef58ad668&_trks id=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72 %3A1205|293%3A1|294%3A50

    4. After drilling the hole I used a fish wire (metal wire) to wire the AUX cable from my stereo through the hole as well as the touchstone cable.

    5. Once all cables were wired I put Velcro on my touchstone (it was not sticky enough by itself).

    6. Now everything is installed! Looks great! You can't even notice the hole I drilled.

The best thing about the install is my PRE charges when I drive! Also, when I get a phone call I answer it on SPEAKER AUTOMATICALLY. I can hear them through my car speakers and they can hear me GREAT. Also, when I have my GPS on AND Pandora Radio the RADIO gets quiet when the GPS talks. It works awesome together!

Hope this helps... The key for me was using the 110V converter b/c I could not get the regular car charger to give the touchstone enough juice.

Damn, much cheaper version of my upgrade! What was I thinking... I just spent 20k on a new mazda 6, aux and bt capable... works awesome with the Pre. LOL. jk. Did my the car, but not as an accessory to the phone.

Looks like you had fun with a good low tech to high tech setup.

you didn't need an inverter to make the touchstone work, the Palm car charger will work the same:cool:.......

I tried it when I first got my touchstone....works just fine, I'm going to order a touchstone dock for the car.:laugh3:

I have to take some pics of my stone-in-car setup.. I have it wired with the Palm brand car charger and stuck on a riser next to my shifter in my Scion xB. Works great plugged in to the factory aux input, but I'm seriously considering saving up a couple hundred bucks and getting a nice drop-in head unit that's Bluetooth compatible so I don't have to mess with any wires at all.

I concur with the OP here, being able to run Pandora and Sprint Nav together is great.. I love how the volume of the music automatically dips down when Nav wants to talk, then ramps back up afterward. It's those little details that give it such "wow factor".

That looks pretty cool! i would need a bluetooth system in my car to make it even more amazing.... or just a brand new one, whichever comes first.

I would like a setup kind of like this except wireless. I have never heard AD2P b4 but it would be nice just to connect with bluetooth instead of hooking a 3.5 every time.

I would also choose a place in my car that would be facing me more so i could control the phone easier. Maybe one of those docks that come up out of the center console.

It is nice to hear phone calls while listening to music and get turn by turn directions at once. I use it all the time but I do not have a touchstone or a bluetooth stereo.

I run mine through the Car radio via a Moto T505 BT unit. it clips to the visor and works great . I really want a ToochStone for the Jeep and I will be all set.

Ya, after posting here I thought, 'my cdplayer is kind of outdated and worn down' so I bought a KENWOOD KDC-BT838U on ebay. It has ad2p and IPOD/mp3 control via usb. I will try and remember to post back on compatibility for anyone that is interested.

Things like this are what put Pre users a step above other users, such ingenuity! I totally have one of those "real American Heroes" beer commercials going through my head!
