Exclamation Warning about using "other calendars" in Google Calendar

So I was having an issue with the calendar sync. As soon as I would add my regular Google Calendar to the Pre and perform a sync, the calendar on the phone would become almost unusable:

    • The calendar would suddenly be completely blank.
    • Tapping an empty time slot would not change it into an editable field to create an event.
    • Creating an event via the drop down menu on the calendar seemed like it was going to work, but the event would never appear on the calendar.

I screwed around with it for quite awhile and finally figured out that the problem seems to be caused by the fact that I had a US Holidays external calendar added in my Google Calendar "other calendars" list. It's a public calendar provided by Google that you can add.

Turning this calendar off in the account settings on the Pre suddenly made for a usable calendar with my events showing. I tried adding a Phases of the Moon public calendar and performing a sync, and was unable to reproduce the problem.

So either it's only caused by the US Holidays calendar, or my particular instance of it was causing problems.

At any rate, I've removed all of these "public calendars" and things are working fine so far.

Interesting. Do you have the US Holidays public calendar by chance?

I added the US Holiday calendar back and resynched. Everything's working normally. One thing I did notice was that the calendar was listed in a different place in the Google Directory. I wonder if I had a really old one that was no longer available but was still in my Calendar list? Maybe removing it and adding the "real" one just now fixed the issue?

My calendar does not work at all when Google is synched to it, despite getting reminders about all my Google events. Even the Palm Profile view does not work.
I have confirmed that I have the latest WebOS and I disabled nearly every setting and removed every public calendar on Google Cal.

Strangely enough, while the calendar is synching, the events show up. But when I get the "synch is complete" they all disappear. I cannot even add events by clicking on the day view, i have to go to the top menu. When I do this, they never show up in the Pre, but they synch back to google.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

@msc, that sounds like the exact behavior I had with the (possibly old) US Holidays public calendar. It appears to be more of a display/interface problem on the Pre. It's as if the events are all there, they just aren't showing up.

Perhaps it isn't a specific calendar type that causes it... maybe if you have any calendar with a specific kind of event or an event with some specific set of content or parameters it can hose things up. Seems like it would be difficult to narrow this down.

If you have multiple calendars in Google, go to the account settings for your calendar, drill into the Google account, and try turning ALL of them to "off". If the problem goes away, turn on each individual calendar one at a time and re-test each time.

The easy way to test it each time is to just go back to the day view and tap a time slot. If it turns into an editable field, I think your calendar is working. This is how I narrowed it down to the US Holidays calendar on mine.

Another thing to try is to remove the Google account from the Calendar account settings, and then add it back.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I think the problem is with some event(s) in my calendar (which are actually all synched to Google through outlook).

Obviously I have no idea what it is. May be a recurring event?

I had a problem with my sync to google. At first I thought it was working...the next thing I knew,,,it went a little weird. I tried to view my events for the week in daily view. When panning left to right, I could not see any of my events. After going back to to the left from the right, some there they were. I had two events on 6/8 and 6/9 that simply will not sync. I don't understand it. It is on my calendar on google. I also don't have multiple calendars on there.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

PS. I love this thing, I just hope it doesn't bonk out on me. This is my first purchase from day one item
