Default Boopsie - killer mobile search app

Boopsie is a new client search application that is totally different than Google, Yahoo, etc. We're looking for your feedback. We use vertical search - like people look for things in real life.

So, you choose a category, then start typing what you want.

So, when you want 'weather', you start typing the word 'weather', select it from the dynamic list and then type part of the city name or zipcode. You could type:

'lag be' - for Laguna Beach
    '926' - for 92651.

There is no faster way to access Wikipedia on a mobile phone. Choose Wikipedia from the main menu, then start typing the prefixes of your search term. So, under the Wikipedia channel:

    'um th' - Uma Thurman
'ge c sc' - finds George C Scott

It's auto-complete on steroids...on your phone. Best bar argument resolver around.

Channels include: Amazon Books, Caltrain Schedule, Celebrity Photos, CitySearch Silicon Valley, World Date and Time, FlightView flight status (west coast only), IMDB, Sports scores, Snow Reports, Surf Reports, Stock quotes, etc. Channels are being added daily by many third parties.

NOTE: You need to have a data plan.

Works on Palm OS Treo and Windows Mobile Treo

Download it free from your phone's browser at http://boopsie.com/dl

There is a Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Blackberry and Java application. Choose Java if you don't have a Windows Mobile, Palm OS or Blackberry device.

    No registration required.

(The phone app works better than the web)

I've downloaded and played with it a little. So far, it looks pretty promising.

Just a heads up . . On my Treo 680 with Chatteremail and several IMAP accounts active, I couldn't log on. I took all my accounts off-line and was able to log on then. Once there, pretty cool! Thanks!

What was the error message? Did it say 'too many ports open' or something like that?

No, all I saw for a couple of minutes was the 'b" spinning and no real error message other than "network timed out". To be honest, I think its a problem with Chatteremail (did I just say that?) Suddenly, QuickNews and Quickipedia won't access my data connection until I shut down Chatter. When I saw this error message 3 times in a row, I got to thinking about my other data apps and Chatter. Pulled the plug on Chatter and logged right on. I just thought it worth mentioning so you would be aware in case you hear of someone saying your product doesn't work on their device . . (Chatter and IMAP might be the reason)

While I am here! GREAT PRODUCT! I have put a blurb up on my Blog and have since done some testing. I am actually preferring your app with Wikipedia over Quickipedia! And it does so much more than that! Very nice product. The search feature is pretty amazing! I showed it to a couple of WM guys yesterday and they were going to check it out! Thanks for posting it here!

Does IMDB only support searching for people, because it doesn't seem to be working when I search for a movie title?

I keep getting a "Network communications error" on the initial startup. None of my other data-dependent apps are having a problem connecting.

I got that error one time with Boopsie. I exited the application and checked the others and they operated properly. Also for Boopsie watchers, I see that the site now has version numbers posted with no recent updates! Ben

I've tried exiting and restarting the app a few times, even a soft reset. No luck yet. Everything else seems to be working though, so I'm not having the same problem Stillrockin was.
