Anyone have a hard time swallowing $80+ month for a single phone?
Currently I'm on Verizon paying about $140/month for four phones (just dropped my BB off the plan, the storm sucks!!!).
I went over to look at the pre a while back. Followed it for a long time and have been a big fan of it. I just broke my phone yesterday, so I went over to buy the Pre today. However, I found out my total bill was something like $83/month after taxes and whatnot. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but I figured Sprint was significantly cheaper than Verizon. I realize it comes w/ a lot of stuff, but I really just want the basic Internte and texting, so I feel as if it's a waste to be forced to buy navigation and tv and whatnot.
I guess I'm just looking for some justification to spend almost $3/day for a phone. I'm taking 19 credits of upper level chemistry and physics classes this year, but I'll almost certainly need a job to pay for it. I walked away a little sour because the salesman told me I couldn't buy just a regular plan for the Pre, I had to buy one of those "everything plans", that gives me a whole lot of things I don't want.

Sprint has a lot of corporate and academic discounts... You state youre taking science classes, perhaps you can check if Sprint gives your school a discount. If you google sprint discounts you should be able to find more information
-
Go to a corp store in your area and ask to see the manager, talk to him if not then call sprint directly and they will hook you up.
Pre so easy to use even a caveman can use it.
Hit The Thanks Button If Anyone Helped You.

$140 for 4 phones on the same plan? If so, that would make sense. It's no different than a bulk discount.

I'll also add that I was paying $106ish a month for my previous phone, the HTC Mogul. $83 a month doesn't sound too bad when you add in that the data connection quit working, wi-fi stopped, and it was just an overall piece of junk. Basically I couldn't use the phone for anything it was intended for.
My previous plan was the same as my current Everything 450 with the exception of 900 minutes instead of only 450.

The extra fluff you're paying for beyond your minutes is unlimited messaging and data (well, practically unlimited data). The navigation and TV aren't extra, they just use the same data basically. So you're getting the best value out of all the carriers at this time, for what you can do with the Pre. Just give it some time and some use, and you'll find yourself thanking yourself for getting such a fun device. Have you tried mixing IM and texting yet?

The tv and nav are bonus's. I know for a fact at&t charges extra for those. In fact for the same features we have with sprint (on an iphone, pda or bb phone) ob at&t would be: 39.99 (450 rate plan) + 30 (data plan) + 20 (unlimited text) + 15 (tv) + 10 (navigation) = 114.99 ... Before taxes!
Plus $3 a day is well worth it to me, considering how much I use my phone. If you go see a movie your spending more than that for only 2 hrs! ... Just my .02

I was told that with the simply everything plan that my Govt employee discount is not allowed.. are they pulling my chain???? I was told I can still receive discounts on accessories but not the calling plan..
