Default Anyone know if you can do this?

So I was planning on getting a Pre unsubsidized since I don't want to extend my contract with Sprint for another year, but I have a question. If I buy it unsubsidized, can I use it with any regular plan with a data plan tacked onto it, rather than having to get the SE plan. Times are tough and so is cutting back, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Seems like you are going to be somewhat limited as to plan selection. Other articles from other sites seem to imply that these won't be the only plans you can use, but your selection will be limited. That being said, as WebOS is almost totally reliant a data connection, with the potential for many many apps utiliing push technology, it wouldn't make any financial sense NOT to get at least an Everything Data plan. You'd end up with crazy data overages. If you can't foot Everything Data, I'd say the Pre might not be the phone for you.

I guess I can't tack on just any data plan to it... Guess I could buy it unsubsidized and then take it to Metro and unlock it but that wouldn't be doing Sprint any good...

BTW: You can block all data if you want to. Since I have Wi-Fi like everywhere I go, its almost no problem. I rarely get out of my house anyways.

If it's anything like the Instinct, Sprint's system simply will not allow activation unless you have an Everything plan.

Most interesting. I have not up'd my contract in four years, but I still continue to be able to upgrade/change my plan without a problem. I have not gone with a subsidized phone during that time and have no intention of doing so again. The Everything Plan(s) can be worked out to actually save a bit of money. I went from $192 to $162 with just a few changes and still kept unlimited data, texting, 1500 minutes, insurance, road side asst.

that's true but the point is YOU CANNOT ACTIVATE A PRE ON ANYTHING BUT AN EVERYTHING DATA PLAN. the system will not allow it. nor a plan change to something other than that.

Right, but I do not believe one has to have a 2-year contract to go with the Everything Plan - I do not and when I purchase the next phone it will be done at the non-subsidized rate.

i guess my question is: If you cannot afford 60-100 dollars a month for an everything plan, how are you going to afford the predicted 1000 dollar unsubsidized pre?

    Default Arrrrrrgh!

$1,000? When did the Pre become $1,000?

I suppose after accessories and applications I am going to be up there, but $1,000? I don't think I want to put my habits into financial perspective like that. I am trying my hardest to stay in denial as to the cost of this toy.

Posting numbers like that makes me start thinking about what I am getting myself into.

That whole post was bogus. It does not make sense for a phone to be sold at $1,000. They don't even sell those gold wrapped Gucci phones for that much w/o contract.
