    Default Dealbreaker

So the admin today posted leaked training material for Sprint employees that included reinforcing the point that Spring won't offer phone as modem data plans with the Pre launch.

At least one of the respondants in the thread said it was a dealbreaker.

I'm gonna have to say the same, because I use my phones for business and having tethering capability is more important than a touchscreen for me.

Is not having phone-as-modem capability on the Pre a dealbreaker for you? Just about all of my fellow blackberry users considering a Pre say yes it is. How stoopid could Sprint be? Especially with the new iPhone looming within the coming weeks, as well?

Looks like there may be ways around phone-as-modem:

As a non-business user, I don't use my current phone as a modem, but it has the capability. Isn't it an extra charge on top of whatever plan you have?

Not a dealbreaker for me, I've only ever wished for the phone-as-modem feature a couple of times, but that was before 3G network speeds. As long as I can check email, weather forecasts, news, and the occassional google search using the Phone browser, I don't see where I'll need the Phone-As-Modem.

I can say that I've used my phone as a modem more than a couple of times, but it wasn't really for anything necessary beyond passing the time at an airport or in the car. But I find the feature an important one.

That said, if the Pre does not come with a means of tethering, I will not be surprised if a company such as JuneFabrics releases the necessary 3rd party software to fix this.

I have used my phone as a modem a few times but only once or twice for an important reason. It is not a dealbreaker for me but I hate that carriers are going this route. Unfortunately it makes sense though. If they have wireless adapters to sell why would they let you use your phone? That defeats the purpose. Also with the advent of WiMax/LTE I think this gives them more of a reason to push their network adapters. I don't like it but I think that is where we are headed.

While the Pre gives you the ability to solve more than one dilemma simultaneously!

Is anyone sure it's not going to be like the Blackberry series for Sprint? I have an 8330 currently and they "do not offer PAM" but on the support site you can download a program to use PAM and it is not charged to my bill because I have the SEP... Is it going to atleast be capable of PAM is my question I guess...

    Default dealbreakers? LOL

Sometimes I wonder if people get so tied up on features that get used maybe once a month that they forget this is a phone first. It better do that well.
I'd really really like visual voicemail.
but the fact I can't shoot a magazine photoshoot on the camera is hardly keeping me awake at night.
