If not a Pre....
I was really hoping to use my $30 + $15 data pack plan with the Pre, but that looks like it isn't happening. I'm still thinking of upgrading my phone though, and want something with a decent web and email (Gmail) experience (don't care about texting). Right now I have an LG lx350, so anything would be an upgrade (though, surprisingly, I've got Opera mini, a Gmail app, and a Google Maps app on that thing....and they all work...most of the time).
Anybody have any recommendations? I'd rather stay with Sprint because the coverage in my area is decent, but have no desire to move to an everything plan and pay an extra $300 per year.
Thanks.

i heard that starting soon if you buy any kind of smart phone sprint is going to make you change to an everything data plan... so you might be stuck switching plans in the near future depending on what you get. i'm not an expert on phones, but the blackberry curve is really good for email. the internet works well also, although it wont look as cool as on the pre
. good luck

Even a Centro?
Thanks for the info.

Engadget posted earlier today (late last night?) that 18-20 new Android-based phones are expected to hit the streets in 2009. If Sprint gets any of them I would imagine they would be classified as 'smartphone' but I'm not entirely sure what classifies a phone as smart, if you catch my meaning.
Just a thought.
As an aside, this might be best discussed in the Sprint section rather than the Pre-specific forum. Nevermind. I was lost for a sec.

Thanks. Since I do all things Google, maybe Android would be better. I guess I'll be waiting a bit longer...

Have you looked at the Centro and the Curve?
The only phones that require an "Everything" plan, as far as I know, are the Pre and the Instinct.

I was thinking about the Centro until the Pre was announced. It's hard to go back, if you know what I mean. I've started researching HTC's offerings but it seems gmail is touch and go on those devices. Maybe I'll just wait on the Sprint Android devices, but I bet they will pull a Pre and require an everything plan.

That does seem to be the wave of the future.
Did you look at the Curve? That's another great phone.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Just watched a video for the unboxing of the HTC Touch Pro 2 (http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/29/h...ed-excitement/). I think I drooled a little bit.
Sprint may get their version as soon as June 12th. If I can find a way to safely & reliably get Android on to that thing....
