Pre and Data Plans Changes?
Given the hype surrounding pre, any word on if Sprint is going to overhaul their data plans? I'm afraid that with the laws of supply and demand that the costs of the data plans will go up; or that Sprint will introduce another tiered plan and redo the costs of the current ones. Thanks.

Sprint nor palm can afford for that to happen it might backfire on them.

agreed... with the rate that sprint lost customers at the begininning of 2008, they better try their hardest to not screw this launch up.

Raising the prices for the data plans or trying to pull some slick move with the acception of the pre I think is too risky for palm or sprint, they have already had their reputation issues in the past, and this is their way of trying rebuild it, right?!

If I'm gonna get the Pre it means changing providers so they better have a GREAT package deal. Is Sprint locked in with Pre or will Verizon be able to sell them in the future?

Sprint only has the Pre exclusively through the end of 2009. Conceivably this deal could be extended, but I have a feeling that Palm doesn't want to lock themselves in with one provider that long like Apple. Two reasons for this. First, using multiple providers is a good strategy vs. the AT&T-only iPhone. Open yourself up to as many consumers as possible. Second, I don't think Palm nearly has the cash on hand that Apple does, and I know Sprint doesn't have the funds that AT&T does. This means unless the Pre is a runaway hit, a longer-term exclusivity deal wouldn't be as lucrative for Palm. They will need to open up to turn a bigger profit on the Pre.

I do agree that using one carrier is a Bad idea.
some ..People have been negging on Palm thinking they were done but I felt something Had to be in the works and then I hear about the Pre. I am soo happy and I'm really siked to see one when they debut,,but I never heard good things about Sprint and everyone I call is on Verizon. If Palm plays the cards right and it is as good as it looks,,Pre will way out do Ufons. My understanding from a Wired Article is Jobs is in a tizzy and may file suit for stealing 'their stuff'?? But I don’t see how that will go. It's all about $ always.
Maybe I’ll wait for Pre to get with Verizon then since I am fine with my trusty 700p. This will Also work the bugs out (some); price will drop and carrier packages will get better. Of course, by then the PreToo will come out???
