Because they already own T-Mobile. Acquiring Spring would make them #2 in the cell phone business - right behind a weaking AT&T.

    Verizon: 87.7 Million Subscribers & $58.6 Billion (Revenue 2008)
    At&T: 79.6 Million Subsribers & $42.7 Billion (Revenue 2007)
    Sprint: 48.8 Million Subscribers & $35.64 Billion (Revenue 2008)
    T-Mobile USA: 33.5 Million Subscribers & ???? (Deutsche Telekom Revenue 61.67 Billion euro 2008)

But curious how a merger or takover/buyout would turn out. A network with both GSM and CDMA would be interesting but how does that benefit the company?

But T-Mobile is 6th in the world bc it has markets in UK and Europe. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...work_operators)

Verizon is 13th in the world with only a US Market. ATT is 17th with US market & its territories.

If it happens Sprint/T-mobile= $82.3 mmillion suscribers, then both will take the 2nd position on the USA market, interesting.

If Wimax is the next big thing, why not team up with another underdog to get it done right.

if there was no chance of 'just thinking about the offer'...Sprint would have said something by now saying it wouldn't happen.

But keep in mind, its not an offer by T-Mobile USA, its an offer from the 6th largest telecommunications provider...in the world.

i'm not really predicting it will happen or try to explain what is going on now...just my 2 cents on what i think would be cool.
