I called customer service today and was told it would be no problem to activate a Pre on my grandfathered SERO500 account.

and any CSR is just as likely to say, no SERO wont work with Pre.

Also, Sprint Insider saying SERO + Pre = no go ...

    http://insidesprintnow.wordpress.com/

"What about my SERO plan? – You’ll have to switch to the EPRP program if you want the Palm Pre. I know you don’t want to hear that, but that’s the way it is, and I can’t see it changing considering the push behind it."

EPRP is $60/mo vs the $30 I am paying for SERO for the same minutes (500).
If the wife likes the Pre, EPRP Family is $110 vs the $60 being paid for SERO for 3x the minutes. Although we use way more data than minutes (texting and tethering).

I am definitely upgrading my A900M, and will just have to decide to up the ante w/ Sprint for a Pre, stay on SERO and get a Treo 755p or go with TMobile G1 (G2 if its out soon enough).

You can not have a SERO or Other Sprint Monthly % Discount with the everything plans (I have the Simply Everything plan now and I switched from SERO last year bec they would not let me have (SERO simply Everything)... also, check out this video:

I was lusting after the Pre and swore that I would forever swear off Sprint if they Instinct'd the Pre

    I did a quick cost analysis ...

    assumptions:
A900M has been loyal but has got to go
Pre will retail for $150 after loyalty upgrade/rebate

cost includes phone and plan ... (x%) represents increase from keeping my A900M

    2 YR COST OF:
    Upgrading to Treo 755p (SERO) = $820 (14%)
    Upgrading to a Pre (EPRP) = $1590 (121%)
Upgrading both SERO lines to Pre (EPRP-Family) = $2940 (308%)

We all know even EPRP is cheaper than an iPhone or android on a different carrier so I did not include those as I have no qualms with Sprint service-wise (PDX, OR).

I guess i'm surprised that people are surprised that there are phones you can't use on SERO.

While I am not a SERO user, I did help a few dozen people switch to Sprint and into those plans. You can't get the world for nothing, if people want to continue on with the SERO then by all means they should. But Sprint has to remain solvent to stay in business so they will have to have some sort of carrot to dangle to try to draw customers out of those crazy cheap plans. New technology and additional services are probably the only two ways that it will happen.

Give me one logical reason why the SERO plan should not work with the PRE?
It is not like the SERO plans have not had premier phones on it in the past.
I have read that sprint did this with the instinct as well, but yet now the Instinct is available on the SERO plan (now called the everything plus referral program).
If sprint wants to remove the grandfathered SERO plans, that is fine they have the right to do that. If they want to make you have unlimited data for the PRE, that makes sense too. But to allow the SERO plan to march on but randomly not let people buy certain phones is arbitrary and inconsistant in their approach from my prespective.

It really is too bad that Sprint can't simply raise the price of the SERO plan as contracts expire... Moving it up to, say $40 would be pretty dang reasonable and the good PR for not making people switch plans would be great! On my employee wireless advantage lines, not one of the people I have on them complained when the price went from $15 to $20.

    Read the last segment:

This is the death nail in all hopes of keeping your SERO plan with the Pre.
