| treo as a modem Hello!
One of the reasons im buying a treo is to use it as a modem. Is it plug and play? (connect it to the laptop and wala) ,or, Do I have to pay extra for modem system? ,or, Is there a sofware available to get free access to the internet?
Thanks! |

| I use the 650 via bluetooth for my Mac all of the time, not as fast as Highspeed, but faster than dial up. Works great!

| there is some tether mode hak being discussed over at treocentral.com which if you can't spend the money u might want to look into but doesn't work that well.
I recommend USBmodem cuase u get free upgrades(if needed) and is I think a little cheaper. |

| Software for free internet access on laptop I have used PDANet for laptop access. For a one-time charge-minimal $20 or $30-your Treo via the hotsynce cable (I still have a 600) makes your laptop wireless. check their website for the 700P and 700W apps. Yes, the name is odd, but the website is: www.junefabrics.com/pdanet Quote:

| PdaNet fan myself! It works great! Like the above poster said, faster than dial up. Was with a group one time in a parking lot and we got to talking about a trip we were going to take. I jerked the laptop out of the jeep, dropped it on the hood, and whipped out my Treo. One them said, "No Way" in about 3 minutes, we had mapquest up looking at time/distance/etc . . . I haven't tried to other one . . USBmodem . .
