Why Does Sprint Get A Bad Rap?
Hello All,
I've read a lot of comments (not here) complaining about Sprint getting the contract to carry Pre exclusively. One commentor referred to Sprint as the "Walmart" of wireless carriers. However, many people I've spoken with say they love Sprint. Their "Everything Data" plan is $30 cheaper than Verizon's and, where I live, Sprint's coverage and voice quality is as good as it gets. In fact, even before the Pre was announced, I had already planned on switching to Sprint when my current contract expires in May. My question is: Why are there so many negative comments about Sprint? Thanks.

I think people are hesitant to switch to something they're not familiar with. I didn't get the iPhone b/c it was on AT&T and wasn't sure how good their service would be. I'm on Sprint, and love it. Have been for years. The only disadvantage they seem to have is in the woods (I don't have my roaming turned on so it may be ok), but where I live and work, it's perfectly fine and I can't complain about the less expensive plans. My favorite feature about Sprint is that night minutes start at 7pm - that's a huge deal b/c you end up using fewer minutes over the month when you have something like 40 hours of extra time that doesn't go against your minutes. I was estatic to find out the Pre was coming to Sprint exclusively (at least at first) b/c I didn't want to have to leave Sprint to get it.

I forgot about the nighttime minutes starting at 7:00 p.m. That was another reason I had decided to switch. My brother-in-law switched to Sprint solely for the cost savings. Once he started using it, he loved it. I'm glad my current contract is done in May - just in time to get the Pre. :laugh3:

I have never heard of Sprint being compared to WalMart. Wow. I actually thought they were a cut above! LOL

What is up with the "4g" network? What dothe "g's" do for me?

I have been with Sprint 11 years now and it has been a roller coaster. I love their network now. A while ago I had some bad years with Sprint and I think that is where all the venom comes from. So for years now we have been hearing from people that left in the bad years and others (who have no experience with Sprint) that heard from the folks that left. Sprint heard the outrage and saw their customers dwindling and made some big changes for the good and in my opinion has become the best network we have in my opinion:
- Plans are unbeatable PERIOD
- Coverage on par with other networks. Honestly all networks grow their coverage each year so Sprint will continue it's growth so no worries here
- Customer Service is not worse than any other carrier
- Sprint 3G is faster. I have a BB 8703e on sprint (personal) and a BB Bold (work) and the 3G network is much faster on my old beat up 8700
- And now the PRE!
I believe the only way for Sprint to change this perception is to get people back and new people signed up in bunches. My hope is that the Pre creates that mindless, irrational fanboys (other than us LOL :laugh3
despite the Carrier (i.e. iPhone).

"That's the iPhone, solving life's dilemmas, one App at a time!"
While the Pre gives you the ability to solve more than one dilemma simultaneously!

I've had Sprint for a year now and I've never had problems with the service. I got my phone in the mail and had to call customer service to have it activated, and it was quick and painless. Since then I've had no problems whatsoever.
If someone helps you, please make sure to thank them by hitting the THANKS button on his/her post! Ubiquity -

Sprint went through a period of having terrible service. I used to use sprint, but switched to Verizon in order to get service inside my house.
When I was on the phone with sprint to cancel, the customer retention guy tried asking me how the two of us were talking if I couldn't get a signal inside my house. My response: "I'm calling you from my Verizon phone." At that point, he processed the cancellation.
All that being said, Sprint has improved a ton since those days, and I am anxiously awaiting my Palm Pre.
