This would probably be very good. Right now, I don't need my phone for data so much. My situation is such that I have wireless for my powerbook just about everywhere I ever need to be and so I have data access when I need it.
For the times that I am traveling outside my usual places, I recently joined TMobile's "Wireless everywhere" plan (Pay As You Go) so that I can get wireless at airports and so forth (for my Powerbook). Works well, both here in the USA and elsewhere.
If my situation changes (again) and I need data on my phone, I will definitely have to do something. The European and North African SIMS I use when I am there are all data, so I am well-served there. Ironic, isn't it?
I feel bad neglecting what was a great aspect of my Treo, but I still love it anyway!

Been skimming through the posts here. Really am thinking about buying a treo for my son who uses t-mobile.
After reading the posts, I guess the 650 can not be used with t-mobile & the 600 isn't as good.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good plan to use with the 650?

T-Mobile and Treo 650
It's not that T-Mobile won't support the 650; it's that the 650 is not one of the phones that they are promoting/selling now. However, this doesn't mean that the t-mobile SIM won't work in a 650.
I would suggest just buying a Treo and then putting in the t-Mobile SIM that your son has. It will work and there will be no problem.

Oh, thank you! I'm totally lost when it comes to this stuff. With what I read about the 650 it's an awesome phone!

Possibilities for buying Cingular to unlock for TMobile
Are there any ideas how much I would save by buying a Cingular Treo 650 on EBAY then unlocking it?

Finding Unlock Codes for GSM phones
Where can I purchase the unlock code for Cingular phones or any other GSM Phones?

Make sure you buy an unlocked 650. T-mobile is not supporting any Treos now. Those of us with the 600 are stuck for now. I think T-Mobile is trying to entice people to buy the Sidekick or Blackberry.

T-Mobile does offer data with pay-as-you-go
I pay $30/month for unlimited Internet from T-Mobile and my voice service is $0.20/minute

When I am in Europe, I buy Pay-as-you-go SIMS there, which works out well (and much cheaper than TMobile Europe). So, I am glad that I bought my phone and have the flexibility of an unlocked set.
I should say that the problem with the pay-as-you-go that TMobile has is that it doesn't support data transmission. I found this out after I switched from my old contract (with DID support data). When I feel the need to use data again, I will probably switch to another company that offer PAYG with data. Not having a contract allows this kind of switch and you don't have to change phones, of course.
I would definitely recommend buying your own and then choosing your own carrier. Perhaps a good thing is to start with pay-as-you-go just to see how the coverage is. The P-A-Y-G plans (they all have them) don't have contracts, so you can change whenever you want.
I hope this was helpful.

unlocking treo 650 for t-mobile
Are there any problems with going this way. I have a 600 and the bottom of the screen is starting to go--I want to stay with t-mobile, but do not want a blackberry
