Smile T-mobile plans

Hi everyone,

By the way, I have found the forums on this website immeasurably helpful in learning about the Treo! I am planning on buying a 650 unlocked/unbranded right after the new year. I had a few questions about T-mobile plans:

- I heard that one can buy the unlimited internet plan for $19.99 per month from Tmo and have full use of the Treo 650’s features. However, there has also been mention made of a $5.99 plan (T-mobileweb) that seems to offer a good amount of features, although perhaps is less than comprehensive. Question is, will the cheaper plan enable me to browse web unlimited, send and receive google g-mail (either through the new google mobile link or through POP), and perhaps use Google Talk or IM? In other words, why should I get the expensive plan?

- I have also heard that there is some sort of proxy setup process if you use the $5.99 plan. How does one go about doing this?

Thanks for your help! Have a wonderful holiday!

Mark

Default T-mobile plans

Hello,

I have an unlocked treo from amazon.com, and I use T-mobile. Their cheapest plan is the 19.99 p/m unlimited internet. This is GPRS (and EDGE where available). They have actually "grandfathered" this plan, but if you speak to them they can still add it to your account. They will try to sell you the 29.99 plan, which is GPRS, EDGE and hotspot access. Don't go for this though, unless you plan on buying the wifi sled.

To be honest though, the download speeds via GPRS are fine for browsing and downloading text emails, and downloading a 1mb email takes about 2.5 min on my device

When it's all said and done, the 20 p/m isn't too bad. They have disabled any kind of dial-up, so you can't just dial up your ISP; you have to use T-mo internet.

I would be happy to discuss in futher detail if you require.

Regards.

Okay....

I just switched it over online, and changed the network in my prefs on the device to T-Zones (aka tmobileweb). Everything seems to be working fine. I can even go online in blazer with no proxy. It might change in a day or two when tmo internet is removed from my account.

Will write back if the access is shutdown. If not, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!
