After upgrading with the GPRS update I was left with a problomatic Treo. Firstly the device was turning it self on every 2 minutes even when turned off. The next day the battery had drained to a point that the Treo would not start. I had to reinstall everything as the device had lost all data. After reinstallation I noticed the device no longer connects to the network for mobile communications and can no longer communicate with the SIM card.

I think she is buggered to say the least. Any suggestions.

I will add a reply to my own request. Please NOTE

Don't install the GPRS Upgrade to your Treo 270 before confirming that you don't already have it installed.

Check the following first to confirm the installation:

Preferences then Options and check for Call Barring.

If you have Call Barring you don't need the upgrade as GPRS is already installed. You will have to create the Network settings manually but your service provider should be able to provide you with that.

If you install the GPRS Upgrade on a Treo which already has a GPRS capability the communicator will fail. It is not reversable. This contradicts HANDSPRINGS view that the upgrade can be installed on a phone which has GPRS and no damage will occur.

Just thought you guys would like to know and not fall into the same trap I did.

    Hi,
I can't help you with re-connecting to the network but I had exactly the same problem with "auto-on" and battery draining when I upgraded to GPRS. MillerHiFi helped me out by suggesting that I had to delete all pending SMS messages and the problem would solve itself. I didn't have any pending except the "canned" SMS messages that came with the unit. I deleted them and "presto", end of problem. Maybe someone else will read this and save the trauma you're going through
