Yesterday I answered the phone but didn't recognize the calling number (therefore I knew the screen was working). Shortly thereafter (maybe 60sec.) I decided to store the number as it was someone I DID know, opened the "flap" and no screen! In spite of resetting, fully charging, consulting the useless Treo manual, it's still blank today! Anyone have any ideas as to what could have so suddenly caused this? And if it needs "professional" attention, does anyone think that a normal "cellphone repair shop" could fix it, or should I "bite the bullet" and send it in to Treo for authorized service? I don't want to spend too much $$$, as I want the Treo 600 in just a few months! I may continue to use it as a phone, and go back to my Palm for the rest of the "features" if anyone suggests that's the way I should go. Thanks.

Is your 270 out of warranty?
If not, HS will automatically replace your 270 with a new one (not new actually bit a refurb). They had a known issue sometime ago with the lcd's failing.

It's out of warranty. Finally gave up and spent the bucks to have it "repaired" after Handspring admitted there were problems, and not only with new ones. They claim many failures but don't give any satisfaction on cutting the repair cost other than saying they'd send me a brand new one rather than repair mine. Beware! I would hope that they've learned their lesson and the 600 doesn't suffer the same problem--as I intend to get one!

Why didn't you take them up on a brand new one, if they offered instead of paying to have yours fixed? ;)

Guess I wasn't clear. That's what I did do and according to their latest email, a brand-new one will be on its way to me by courier tomorrow. So they have partially (but only partially) redeemed themselves!
