Okay, this has got to be the deal to end all deals. I ordered a Sprint PCS-enabled Treo 300 from Amazon.com for $499. Shipping was free (though I opted to pony up $11.98 for Second Day FedEx to get it this Friday!). And NO sales tax! I'm in California, so YMMV.

Amazon offers a $150 mail-in rebate and Sprint offers a $50 rebate. This makes for th Treo 300 delivered to your door for $299! In my case, $311.97 to get it a couple week earlier. Plus with Sprint's PCS Vision deal, it's hard to not go for it.

$30/month for 300 anytime minutes, unlimited night and weekend minutes, free roaming and long distance! PCS Vision is free for the first three months, and then $10 extra a month after that. Since I access the internet during days at work and home, I got this to access the internet on weekends at my kids' numerous sporting events and practices! Woohoo!

My only fear is that the Treo 300 is being blown out through the pipeline to make way for some really, really cool Treo like a Treo 330 with removable battery pack, better screen and expandability! (Please tell me that's not going to happen for a year!)

    Cheers everyone,

    Nobbie

    Hi:

I'm very interested in this Amazon deal, but i'm a little confused.... Does it mean that when i buy the Treo from them, they also sell me a plan? Is this some special Amazon plan? Or do i take the delivered phone to any Sprint Store and activate it and sign up there?

I'm an existing Sprint member for years, so i'm no longer under any agreement. I'd like to upgrade my old plan to the new one with unlimited PCS Vision and keep my old phone number - the guy at the local store said i could do that and with a 2 year agreement, i could also waive the activation fee.

Would this Amazon deal be the same? and would i qualify for the rebate?

    Thanks!

They are just a reseller for Sprint. You actually call the Sprint Activation Center to select your plan. The unlimited data plan rocks. I can't tell you how much I use...I'm always checking email...surfing the web. It's so handy having the Treo.

The Amazon deal is only for new activations. However, it's only a 1 year commitment and the Sprint $50 rebate should take care of the activation fee.

The $299 Amazon Deal is very good considering you get a color PDA right off the bat. You could see if the Sprint store would match, but I haven't heard anyone having much luck with the Sprint stores. I chose the 500 minute plan with unlimted data. Sprint also gives you 3 months of FREE data usage. Not to be a schill for Sprint, but I couldn't be happier with my 300. I used to have a 180 and I'm so much happier w/ my 300. If your interested in learning more about the 300, then please check my review

    Thanks Chris!

It sounds like i could just bring the Treo into a store and go through the setup.

In regards to the new activations, i'm still a little confused - i could easily dump my existing plan and start another one which is basically a new activation.

If this works, the Amazon deal would be great! Heck! Even if it doesn't work, it'll be the same price as getting one at the store (and i have to pay tax there - i'm in SF).

That's it!(w00t) I phoned the Sprint activation center and my phone was configured in minutes. I just had to wait overnight for it to charge and to start using it. My guess is that you'd lose your old number with a new activation...but I'm not sure.

Let me know if you should have any questions....good luck.

True. Just tell them you'd gladly return it to Amazon and sign up w/ Voicestream ;)

HeHe! over here in SF, i would threaten T-Mobile..... anyways, i spoke to a guy last week and he said that i could get a new plan and keep my old phone number - he said that there would be an activation fee, but i could waive it if i sign up for two years - don't see why not, because i've been with Sprint for over 3 years - not sure if it would work for the Amazon rebate but i would think it would...
