Smile New Treo User - New to Forums

Hi, this is my first post and my first treo. I purchased a Treo 300 from ebay for 57.00.

I already have Sprint and checked to be sure it would work with my network before purchasing. I am waiting on delivery now but was checking around for a kewl place to learn more about it.

I am new to the PDA scene since all I had in the past was a Palm m105 (still have do not use) and never really used it allot.

I will be looking for some applications to help me in daily tasks away from the home office. Like puTTy or some type of telnet/ssh application for checking up on remote servers while away from the office and also something like Remote Desktop for windows server as well.

I run a hosting company and maintain several remote servers accross the US, so if anyone knows of some great application that would help me out please point me in the right direction.

If these apps are not available then I guess I could break down and learn how to dev for the palm but I really do not have time for learning that at this point. :P

Anyways, I look forward to learning more about my Treo and meeting new people here as well.

Although I don't have it installed this very minute, I like VSFTP! It allows me to FTP files to my servers from my Treo 650. I don't know if Chatteremail or Snappermail will run on a 300, but those are awesome email applications if you need/depend on email on a daily basis. Hope this helps . . . I am not certain that Palm still supports Blaizer web browser for the 300, but I might be wrong . . . Hope this helps . . .

Congrats on your new Treo and welcome to Everything Treo. I hope you find the site useful.

I used to run SnapperMail on my 300 and from their site, all Treo smartphones (outside of the Windows Mobile 5 based 700w) are supported. Congrats on your new Treo and welcome to Everything Treo. I hope you find the site useful. I cringe when I have to use Telnet from my Mac, so never ventured to put it on the Treo. Nothing having to do with the programs, but rather the commands involved with task of backing up mySQL dbs.

According to Palm, Blazer is discontinued for the 300. They recommend these alternative browsers.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I do plan on testing out some applications for use since I have been buzzing around this site.
Looks like I will use some VPN software for my windows servers but still have yet to find anything telnet/ssh wise for my linux servers.

As far as backing up mySQL I can do it from my workstations at home/office. I really just need the access for this while on the road or being out somewhere and a support ticket comes through.

My job is pretty easy since my website sales/support is fully automated and should manage itself well. There are times where I may need to log in remote to restart and application or check for trouble while being away.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome!

Well, I got it in the mail today and it was in great shape for a used unit.

I had to hard reset it to come on and called sprint to get it activated. Was a breeze.

Since then I have added EudoraMail, EudoraBrowser(which I do not like yet) and a few other apps. Very nice I must say. I downloaded a nice VNC application to run my windows servers via remote from which seems to be exactly what I needed but still have yet to find anything for my linux ssh/telnet as of yet.

http://palmvnc2.free.fr/ <-- VNC App

Still too early to give success stories but just dropping another post about my great new toy I got for 57.00 off ebay. =)

I found Eudora Browser was fast and didn't get tagged as a "mobile browser". It allowed me to open up some sites that were unavailable in Blazer. Sites that were critical, like fantasy baseball.

You really can't beat a Treo 300 for that price. A color PDA alone is worth the $$.

Very true.

I like the Eudora but was kinda hoping for the same effect as the Blazer advertised by showing actuall images and things of the sites. I do have some control panels for my service I manage via a browser and it would be great to use them via the moble until.

Once I tinker with it a bit more I may decide to purchase some applications for it that are worthy.

Know any place that sells applications that take PayPal? My company uses paypal for everything so I prefer to buy using it as well as much as possible for these types of things (company related) for easy tax prep at the end of the quarter. :P

Thanks for all your help.

The Everthing Treo Software Store accepts PayPal.

No problem...I was excited to see some activity again in the Treo 300 forum! I used my 300 for a few years until I dropped it flush on concrete. The flip part came off and that was the end. I was thinking about resurrecting it and passing it to a friend. Just did a quick search and it's only $20 or so for a new flip lid. I might just do that..

Yeah, I read up on these before I got mine and the flip lid seemed to be a big gripe when it broke. I seen a few on ebay for 20.00 like you said an may just buy one for spare in case mine takes a dive.

Thanks for the link for software, I will shop around now. =)

There are two choices for ssh and both are freeware.
