Hello,

I got a Treo 300 last week and am very excited to have it.  I had a Treo 180 and was very disappointed with the carrier I was using and the lack of completed calls.  The Treo 300 is such a sweet device.

However ...

I have had the Treo 300 give itself a hard reset twice within a week.  The first time I was putting in the power plug to have it sync up with my PC.  There was 75% power still in it but when I plugged it in I noticed that the screen blanked and then saw the Palm logo.  The Applications screen then showed up and the only things left on the Palm were the default apps.  All of the things I installed were gone.

Just this morning it happened again.  I set the Treo to wake me up at 7:00 am with an appointment set with an alarm in calendar.  When I put on my glasses to look at my Treo, the backlight was on and the calendar was showing my appt reminder.  I touched the OK button and the screen then blanked and reset itself exactly like before.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have never had that problem once and it sounds to me like you are having a major conflict with some program that you loaded.  Did you reload all the progams back on and it happened again?  Or did it happen again BEFORE you could reload them?

I would suggest you look carefully at what you are loading.  Also check with tech support for those programs and find out if there are any known incompatibilities with the palm native programs... sometimes they can slip by unnoticed.

If worse comes to worse contact Handspring support and ask for their assistance.  They may know what caused it and be able to help you out.

My poor Treo has had more software installed and removed than you can imagine, and I have only had to perform two hard resets because it just wouldnt respond and both were caused by SnapperMail. If you have SnapperMail I highly suggest that you upgrade to the most recent beta it seems to be OK. I use the alarms all the time and I mess with it constantly, LOL It's almost out of memory. Once I figure out what my favorite apps are I will thin it out a bit. Did you get it from Sprint or Handspring? Llynx gave some excellent advice, I would run it for a bit with just the default apps in it and see it repeats the problem. If it continues go raise hell with Sprint they will give you another one.

I'm curious who your provider was with the 180. I'm not too thrilled with Voicestream. I'm was looking to upgrade to the 270, but it seems like everyone is "giddy" over the Sprint 300. Any thoughts?

My provider was Voicestream.  Their service was HORRIBLE.  I had my original 180 replaced by Handspring in case it was the hardware that was causing the bad reception and dropped calls.  It turned out that it was just Voicestream and their coverage here in Austin.  It was very frustrating.  After several letters and many phone calls up their support food chain, I was able to have them cancel my contract and go somewhere else.

The day my contract was cancelled was the day I went back to Sprint and got the 300.  I've been a happy camper with the phone service, and the Treo has settled down and I haven't had to reset it for weeks now.

All I can say is I used to have dropped calls all the time, I hated Sprint (their Customer Service still SUCKS)or just plain no service at all. Since I got the Treo I havent had one dropped call and the only time I have noticed not having service I was three floors underground and I even had service intermittently. It still feels huge when your speaking on it, but I love it!

I purchased two Treo 300's in late August from Sprint.  They have both had Hard reset problems as well as SMS Errors causing a soft reset to be needed. I finally deleted the SMS files to avoid the problem.

Sprint replaced one of the phones and when the technician at the store was activating the new one it froze up and required a hard reset to get going. Naturally he had no idea what to do.

It is a great phone when it is working but very unreliable.  If you travel you had better take hard copies of important numbers and schedules.  I have to synch up with my desktop at work and if I am out of the office when it crashes I am stuck.

I can only hope they resolve the software problems soon.

I've had a similar problem with my Treo 300, and it always relates to the network connection.  Pretty much any time an App tries to access the network and has any sort of problem, the Treo resets.  This occurs most often with the Treo Mail App, but I've also seen it happen with Blazer and AvantGo.

Over the past month I have learned alot.  It seems a lot of the aftermarket software is not compatible with the 300.  I ultimately deleted the SMS program that came with the phone and I have not had any trouble since.

I turned on my Treo last Friday morning to be greeted by a complete dearth of data.  No idea why, but everything was gone.  I'd hot-synched the day before so I wasn't desparate, but would like to know why this happens.  The only 3rd party apps I've loaded are the 5 apps in Mark/Space Office.  Their mail and sketch programs are great and I'd really like to keep them.  Since that one time I've had no trouble, but I do get frequent soft resets when I'm using (or trying to use) the internet.  If the connection takes too long to establish, the Treo resets itself.  This happens whether I'm using the 3rd party mail program or the Blazer app that came with the unit.  Are the two things connected?  The people at Handspring refuse to do any tech support and send you to Sprint.  The people at Sprint know nothing about the Treo and send you to a store.  In all of Manhattan there is only one store that can do a diagnostic on a Treo and it's really out of the way.  Before I kill half a day, I thought I'd ask for feedback here.
Thanks,
Ellen
