Looks like Enfora did announce in January an add on product for Treo 6x0 that provides WiFi with extra battery capacity. They announced delivery in February and March.
Now April is almost over. Has anybody heard of actual units being shipped/sold?
Now it's the start of June & my guess is it's still in production. I have been wanting some kind of WiFi for my Treo 650 so we could at least have the possibility to use Voice Over IP & make calls over the Internet. That is my hope anyway beyond being able to surf the web & use email from a WiFi hotspot or connect to my wireless LAN at home & in the office.
There seem to be several technical issues impeding their progress. The least of which is a problem with power. I know Sandisk gave up development of their WiFi cards for the Treo. At least that is what they said in an email to me yesterday. C-Guys was working on card compatibility & drivers for the Treo & Palm is still working on the driver problem. I believe they may be wanting to include WiFi in their next generation of phones but I doubt whether they will find a solution for Treo 650 users.
There was some hope that Shadowmite had found a solution but most people, myself included, just get endless reboots after installing the Palm WiFi card & the stock or different versions of drivers which are floating around the Internet. I have tried both Palm & Sandisk WiFi cards, have reflashed my ROM 25-30 times but WiFi connectivity still eludes my Treo 650. So I am looking forward to see if Enfora can actually come up with a solution where the network configuration can be shared with the phone as well as the WiFi.
So much for the Treo 650 being a truly ubiquitious device!
