While a friend was borrowing my Treo 600, the battery ran out (completely out), and all my data was lost.

Everything that I'd installed through HotSync, including data (contacts, memos, calendar stuff) plus applications -- those that had been installed I believe from the Setup CD (i.e. a few new games) plus apps I'd installed myself (Vindigo, Verichat).

Is this a true design flaw, that all data/apps are lost when the battery runs out, or did something else happen?

    Thanks.

Sounds like you have another issue going on. The treo should keep your data for a few days after the battery is drained to the point where you can't turn on the screen.

I've been having the same problem. Happend twice now. Phone starts making a buzing noise right before it dies.
