Smile Buzzing

I continue to be haunted by the buzzing that began when Cingular and AT&T merged their networks at the end of 2004. I found one solution that came from a user in China that requires taking the 600 apart and basically resurrecting the old "put some aluminum foil on the rabbit ears" trick. I'm most hesitant to do that, but may have to resort to it at some point. Palm will fix it for a mere $144.

It seems to be a part of the "warm-up" process when a call is initiated, regardless of whether I made or received the call, and it diminishes as the call progresses most of the time. It also helps if you put your finger on the antenna, which pretty much makes it impossible to do anything else. On occasion the buzzing is minimal on my end, but too loud to continue the conversation on the other end.

Rumor has it that this same problem exists in the 650. Any comments?

Default Buzzing too!

I too have recently starting getting a buzzing sound on calls made by or received on my Treo 600. I don't hear it but everyone I talk to does and it doesn't go away. I have Cingular(merged with AT&T my prior service) but it has just started doing this and I've had the phone since Nov, 2004. I too would like to know what to do about it.
thanks and any info would help us both...

I had the same thing with my 600 until this morning. When I made a call I could hear the phone 'dialling'. You know that noise you get when you hold the phone clsoe to a speaker when it's dialling? I got that in my ear. I've also had complaints about the phone buzzing on calls (not that I've heard it). I could also make the phone buzz by touching the aerial to my head!

I found the advise to take the phone apart and wrap foil around the battery lead so I did that. Used loads of foil and insulated it with tape. I also found the screw that holds the aerial on wasn't tight and fastended that down when I reassembled the phone.

The mod has worked a treat. The buzzing has gone totally and I can touch my head with the aerial without any noise at all. I'm waiting for the battery to run down to less than 50% to see if the buzz is still there (it got worse as the battery discharged) but I think I've cracked my problems.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks, Andy! I'm not that electronic. Doubt that I could take it apart and get it back together correctly. However, it doesn't really matter now as the whole phone crashed and burned! First the buzzing sound, then I downloaded the updater patch to correct everything (per Palm) and it ate up al my memory, caused the phone to reboot every 10 minutes- off and on- and then finally, the screen started turning black--actually Blue-- and now it's nearly gone completely. I called there warranty center, got the run around about me being at fault an finally got them to send me a new phone that should be here today. The catch is, that if "they" decide that it is my fault and I someway have caused this to happen, then I will be charged for the new 600 phone--scary but true! Will keep everyone updated as to the outcome. Maybe should have bit the bullet and gone to the 650--hindsight! Cheers, Jack

Default Buzzing sounds

Looks like I am not alone in having this buzzing sound problem. 2 other friends with Treo 600 have the same problem too. Our phones are all about 18 mths old. The local PALM helpdesk seem to imply that this is due to software problems and asked us to do hard resets. Does not seem to work. The question now is whether to take apart the phone as suggested....

Default Buzzing

Thanks for the updates. Since I posted this question, my Treo 600 and an a friend's 600 have both crashed forever. Both phones developed large blue "leekage" on the screen, covered the entire screen, and then went out. We both, sent them back to Cingular (AT&T) and they replaced them under warranty. Mine is now working fine with out the Buzzing, the other guy's however did the same thing again, and he had to have it replaced again! Bottom line is that the phones seem to be have a lot of problems and the companies are dealing with the problems as they come up. I plan to upgrade to the 650 the first of the year.
I wouldn't take the phone apart--it cancels the warranty!
Cheers,
Jack

i think you should collect all your email addresses and forward to Palm and/or Cingular -AND- refer them to this tread and ask them how could this be the operators' fault in all these cases. you all deserve a resolution or a new phone at no charge in my opinion.

Indeed! But when all is said and done, as it was put to me one time by the customer service mgr of the largest credit card company in the world--"$73,000 a year or not, you are just a number on a spread sheet with A------- E------!" Unfortunatly, we are all just a number.
thanks for the support.
