I heard the treo 600 was only mono. That's one of the reason's I'm holding out for the much-rumored 610. I'm hoping it will support stereo.

If you use it with a stereo headset you're set. The treo itself only has a single mono speaker. It's a phone not a hifi system!

Treo 600 is an excellent stereo mp3 player. Sound quality will depend on sample rate (as with all codecs) and sound output device. My mp3s are 320 kbps and I use external powered speakers or various headphones / headsets. I record my CDs with RealPlayer (free) and transfer to my Treo 600 via Treo OEM USB Cable. You can download a Treo 600 version of RealPlayer (also free). I also use Pocket Tunes Deluxe (prefer it). However I have a large collection of jpg images loaded and when I play a "Slide Show" it's nice to play music AT THE SAME TIME - My Sound & Light Show. In this case, both the mp3s and JPGs are SD Card resident - playback in simultaneity is smooth and perfect with RealPlayer, but "skips" with P-Tunes. I think this is because P-Tunes is more resource integrated. So - for Normal mp3 use, I use P-Tunes / for Sound and Light Show, I use RealPlayer. Works great, No Problems. :D

does anyone know if there is something special about the stereo headphone adaptor palmone sells for $20 compared to a standard 2.5mm -3.5mm stereo adaptor you can buy from radio shack for 3.99?

The thing is it's working fine for headphones but it wont work with my car tape adaptor. I plug the adaptor in and it shuts off the music and if i plug headphones in i hear the music - stereo. But as soon as i plug in the tape adaptor, the speaker turns back on, and nothing plays through the stereo. wierd. has anyone experienced this or tried to play mp3s of the treo in their car stereo?

I have been playing MP3s on my car stereo with a tape adapter, but there is a trick.

The Treo looks for resistance in the stereo adapter before turning off the external speaker and routing the music to the headphones. The car stereo adapters apparently don't have enough to trigger that switch from external speaker to headphone. What I have done is purchase a 1/8" stereo speaker splitter and I plug a pair of headphones into one side and the tape adapter in the other. It works fine.

Thanks for the info on headset use. I have a Bose QuietComfort2 and Sony Active Speaker SRS-T77 NEITHER of which works with Treo headset jack. Calls to Verizon Tech and PalmOne Tech could not solve the problem; but this forum has. I plugged in my Nike earbud headset and the resistance must have been correct because it worked. I then used the splitter to add the other devices and now they work. Community effort solves the problem... Thanks all
