Default Captured music to ringtone

Is there a relatively simple way to capture sounds from a video / DVD and make it into a ringtone? I am only using the standard Treo software and have not subscribed to internet access. There is a phone ringing in one of my favorite movies and I would like to use that sound for my ringtone.
Thanks.

Yes, it would be possible, but it depends on what you have available to capture the sound on your PC. Are you using Windows or Mac? Do you have a microphone connected?

I guess you could also record directly with the Treo, but I don't know what quality you would get.

Do you want to us mp3 ringtone software or not?

Default Captured music to ringtone

Alex,
I am working on a PC and currently do not have anything hooked up. My thought was to get the movie on DVD so I could play on the PC and "grab" the sounds I want. But what then? I have a piece of software called Dart Audio Pro designed to clean up recordings and burn to CD. I think it will allow me to pull out the audio I want although I'm not sure what format it would be in - wav?. Once I have the sound captured how would I get it into my Treo to use as a ringtone? Thanks for your help.

If you can get it captured to a wav file, then you could convert it to an AMR file that can be used natively by the Treo.

More info here.

Default WAV to ringtone

Alex,
I was able to get the file as a WAV, how do I go about converting and using it for a ringtone?
I looked on the site you mentioned, but was unable to find the info I needed.
Thanks.

Sorry, I pointed you to the information for the 650, because I didn't notice which forum you posted in. The Treo 600 natively only supports using midi files as ringtones.

The only way you could use that wav file as a ringtone, would be with a 3rd-party ringtone application. LightWav is one that supports wav files, but there are other choices as well, but those would require you to create an mp3 file from the wav file.

Default Getting the file into the phone

Thanks for the quick reply Alex.
If I get the file converted to a midi how do I get it into the phone if I'm not using the email or web functions?
I'm only using the phone & PDA functions at this time.

I don't recommend trying to convert a wav to a midi. They aren't the same type of audio files. Midi is a composition of music, with the music and instruments being part of the information in the file. Wav is more recorded music. So going from wav to midi requires software to interpret the wav file to create a midi file. So, it's not like converting from wav to mp3 or some other audio format.

There is information about installing a midi file as a ringtone in this TreoBits discussion thread.

Default audio mid recorder

I use a program that records the sound as it comes off of your sound card. You can save it in any format you want. Then import it into your ringtone program. It works well.
