I just found a solution to the problem I described above. It's called a "warm reset," and I found it in a Q&A section on this site. My phone is now working again. All my data was wiped out (the hard reset does this), but it's all backed up. Here's the instructions for the "warm reset," and who knows what other Treo 600 problems it can cure!
A system reset stops whatever the device is doing and starts over again, bypassing any system extensions. This is a good way to get out of a "boot loop" error, and allows you to remove any recently installed third-party applications that might be causing the problem.
- Press and hold the UP button on the front of your device.
- While holding the UP button down, use your stylus to push the Reset button on the back of your device.
- When you see the "Palm Powered" screen appear, you can release the UP button.
- Remove any recently installed applications that may have cause the problem.
- Do a Soft Reset.
