Default Hotsync treo 600 to xp not working

My Treo 600 was working perfectly, syncing and everything, until I installed some software that made my device go into an infinite reset loop, so it had to be hard reset, but I hot synced and everything got back on my phone, but after that last sync, i have no been able to resync since. I have gone through all the palm guides and support and nothing works. I have reinstalled palm desktop, tried to assign drivers and the like. The situation now is that I press the hotsync button and the treo says connecting to desktop, but hotsync doesn't detect it, rather everytime windows says "found new hardware: palm handheld" and asks me to look for a driver. I go and find the driver for it in the Palm folder (the only driver there is USBDriver.inf) but then windows says this driver has nothing to do with your device and does not install that driver. That is where I am at right now. I have tried it on a different computer as well and it does the same thing, so it isn't my specific computer. I have noticed on my USB cable, on the Palm connector part, a couple of the "pins" are a little bent, but it has been like that for awhile and it synced just fine, and right now it still charges. My theories are that maybe something in the handheld is bad, a file got deleted or something, or those two bent pins are crucial to making hotsync recognize my treo? Haha I have no idea, please help!!!

P.S. also, it has been like a week since my last sync so my palm has more information in it than my desktop, i would prefer not to have to hard reset it and loose that info, but if I must then oh well.

depending on the version of palm desktop software, uninstalling may not fix a corrupted file, as the palm folder may be left on your computer. A re-install may not copy over a corrupted file in this case. Uninstall the Palm Desktop Software. Find the palm folder and copy it to a USB flash drive or something and delete the original folder after copying is complete. Make sure to enable viewing of hidden or system files before copying the folder to the USB flashdrive. Reboot PC. Re-install the Desktop Software, and check the conduits to save only the data you KNOW isnt part of the problem and would be disastrous to lose. Try to Hotsync again. Hmmmm, that "found new hardware" deal is something I havent run into, so you may have yet another problem.

I will try what you said about maybe not being able to get rid of a corrupted file, but it happened on a 2nd computer that I tried that had never had palm software on it when i did a fresh install of palm desktop, so I really think it is either a problem with the treo itself or cable. Unfortunately I can't locate a treo 600 cable in my vicinity (sprint has basically given up on treo 600s besides giving you a refurbished one if yours dies). I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem either on lost of different forums, so I wonder what is wrong...

Another thought comes to mind..., What piece of software do you suspect is causing problems? Can you delete that one program and associated files from the phone and try to sync?
